Watch the Charter Review Commission

You may recall several months ago I wrote on this blog that when the new BCC commissioners took office, they began discussing scrapping the charter.  I said that it was because their campaign contributors wanted to scrap it because they were losing too many ballot initiatives to citizens (term limits, single-district elections, etc.).

I also wrote that I thought that the CRC would front for those interests when they met.

Was it Mr. Kerekes who brought it up at a recent CRC meeting?

CRC Meeting Feb 1st

Did any of you see the live video of the above?   Had not seen their commission meetings before and found it somewhat of a surprise as to how it was conducted.

Their meetings would benefit by adopting Robert"s Rules of Order Newly Revised and a parliamentarian present to keep chair informed/maintain order.    If there is no gavel, suggest chair get one and use it when someone speaks who has not been recognized.

One member mentioned discussion was being done before a motion/second had been obtained.   He was correct.    Motions need to be clear/concise.    The long explaination comes with the discussion.

liberty talk

The Clay County Republican Liberty Caucus will be having yet another monthly meeting at 7:00 this wednesday at the Fleming Island.  There is no speaker this month so it gives attendees a greater chance to express their opinions.

Subjects on the agenda:

Steering committee- we need some proactive people.

watchdog committee-we need some people with an axe to grind

Sunday alcohol sales-There are some new developments on this issue.  Depending on how things go I want the RLC to assist in the petition drive.

Rabies Alert

The Clay County Health Department has issued a rabies alert for Middleburg, the 32068 ZIP code south of County Road 218 to County Road 16.

According to the health department, the alert is in response to a raccoon that recently tested positive for rabies. It will be in effect for 60 days.

Causes of Failure in Stock Trading

Penny stocks have been growing in popularity in recent years. In the past, it was considered as bad, but changes in the law and the way the stock exchanges work has created hope among investors. Penny stocks can make someone rich. At the same time it can also make one poor. People lose a lot of money because of market crash. Although a lot is out of investors’ control, there are still instruction that can be learned when you experience a market downturn.

Liquidity
When penny stocks lack much liquidity, it leads to two problems: first, there is the possibility that you won't be able to sell the stock, because it may be hard to find a buyer for a particular stock, and you may have to lower your price. Second, low liquidity levels provide opportunities for some traders to manipulate stock prices.   They buy large amounts of stock, hype it up and then sell it after other investors find it attractive.

How to invest in penny stocks

The term penny stocks generally stands for any stocks that trade outside the major stock exchanges and is taken as ‘deprecatory’. The major stock exchanges would include: NASDAQ, AMEX, or NYSE. The term is also often used interchangeably with small caps and nano caps. The title of penny stock yet should be determined by the share price instead the listing service or market capitalization. Many companies show false track records to public. Even some of them suffer from bankruptcy.  There are a number of micro cap companies that pay individuals to publicize the company stock in different media, like newsletters, financial television and radio shows. They can also send spam email trying to persuade you to purchase particular stock. When several of these companies will file for an IPO, many others will start off trading on the OTC BB as a penny stocks.

Good Olde Boys (then and now )

As is custom at least once a week the term good olde boy's hits the blogs again today. I have been a political spectator in Clay for many years and have known more than one group of good olde boys.. There was a time way back when, when I was hell bent on getting rid of the good olde boys. Now that I am old and maybe a tad bit wiser I might be slightly moore objective about this topic. I am to the point now where I almost miss the good olde boys  from long ago. For one thing most were very likeable, and second they had a political code of ethics. They would smile and shake your hand as they  picked your pocket.

Enough time yet for an opinion on the big "O"?

For those of us who used to get into some spirited blogging on national politics - and in particular those whose mantra was 'I have to give him time before ...."

Has there been enough time?

What do you think so far?

I won't prod with my opinion - ok, I will -  as a clue, I think he had enough time by the time he brought his arm down from being sworn in.

My biggest problems -

Broken promises of openness in government, i.e. CSPAN, posting bills for all to review, deals with drug companies - same ol' politics.

Deficit - increased more in one year than all years of Bush
