My wife sent this to me from one of our friends. Ladies, I hope you enjoy. Another Sign Of The Times
For a second, I thought I was having a senior moment. But I cleaned my glasses & checked it again, just to make sure. Cruising through the news, I came across this story but at first, thought I got mixed up & was on the blogs here at MCS. From the Drudge Report, a story taken from Chanel 13, central Florida, Barefoot Bay, dateline, 09.13.08. A registered Democrat until Obama won the nomination, Andy Lacasse drew some attention, along with the ire of some of his neighbors when he put up a sign in his front yard that read, "Obama half - breed Muslin." When interviewed, Mr. Lacasse was quoted as saying, "I got nothing good to say about Obama." "If I see anybody touching that sign, I got a club sitting right over there." "That's the Democratic Party. They're nothing but a bunch of cutthroats. Like I always said, you show me an honest politician, I'll show you an honest thief." Simply Amazin'
Like many of you, I have seen & heard many things in my life that spanned the region from truly stupid through off centered & going into the direction of "I'll have to think aboiut it." But yesterday, I read something that I found truly amazin'. I got a usual newsletter from the Catholic League concerning the new movie from Bill Maher called, "Religulous." As expectected, the first two short paragraphs basically lambasted the movie. No news there. But it was the third paragraph that caught my eye & made me scratch my head & say, "Huh?" Here's what Bill Donohue, President of the Catholic League went on to say. Related: read more | 15 comments
Qulifications & Insults
Palin is still failin’. At least according to the story on A-6 in today’s TU. According to the story, she apparently still thinks that geographical proximity is a valid qualification for political insight. In addition to other statements of questionable validity, the last two paragraphs are telling. To quote for accuracy, “Palin was asked if she thought the U.S. presence in Iraq & Afghanistan was helping to mitigate terrorism.” “I think our presence in Iraq & Afghanistan will lead to further security for our nation. We can never again let them onto our soil.” Interesting Questions
As part of the Times Union, reader advocate's e mail group, I, along with close to 2,000 other readers, are occasionally sent questions by either Wayne Ezell or a reporter, on pertinent issues. I received one today with two questions. 1. Should the government cap CEO compensation for the heads of firms taken over by the government or receiving substantial help from the bailout? 2. Are CEO's in the private sector paid too much? To my way of thinking, these are two hot button questions with multiple sides, no easy answers & very few valid answers. Any comments? Sunshine Through The Clouds
Just when I thought things could get any better, they did, in spite of the clouds & rain this AM. First, the CUBS clinched the NL Central yesterday. This morning, I checked the TV listing in the sports section & found out that The BEARS are on at 1 PM, the CUBS are on at 2 PM & the Jags are on at 4 PM. Thank goodness for Picture In Picture. After feeling so good about the world in general, I opened up the New York Times this morning &, Lily, Finder, I hope that you're reading this, I found two great editorials on the current candidates. "Seeking a President Who Gives Goose Bumps? So's Obama." NYT, 09.21.08, by Maureen Dowd gives us a dream conversation between Obama & president from the TV series, West Wing, Jed Bartlet. It was a great read. The second, "Truthiness Stages a Comeback," NYT, 09.21.08, by Frank Rich, (published on 09.20.08) gives readers & voters another aspect on the honesty factor, or, truthiness, of some candidates. CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN!
CUBS win, 5-4 over the Cardinals in CHICAGO, my kind of town, to capture the Central Division Championship. OH HAPPY DAY! We now return control your blog back to you. JATFUR. Rich K Related: 1 comment | Tags: Baseball | Heaven | Not Iowa But Chicago
A Chicken In Every Pot
The old saying went, "What this country needs is a chicken in every pot, two cars in the garage & a good five cent cigar." I'd throw in a refreshing cold beer & a world series win for the CUBS, but that's just me. Here's what we don't need. Another person propelling a vehicle on the road who has absolutely no conception of what the process of driving actually entails. Another person propelling a vehicle who you can hear coming 1/4 of a mile away. More political signs. More stupid people side bar stories in the news. Yet another blog entry on CCAC that accomplishes absolutely nothing positive. More people building &/ or rebuilding in a known flood zone, hurricane zone, erosion zone, earthquake zone, wildfire zone. More presidential candidates talking about issues that have nothing to do with actually governing a country. More attacks, sleaze, innuendo, for the pundits to analyse, take up time, ponder upon & confuse the issues with for the viewing public. More advertisements for natural male enhancement. More people on cell phones doing everything except what they should be doing. More news time taken up reporting on famous people who are only famous for being famous. More blogs about animal control. More hurricanes. More personal interviews with people who haven't yet figured out the basics of the English language. More uplifiting news about the stock markets. More talk shows/TV shows with plenty of stupid people who yell at each other. More shows with judges judging stupid people. Thinner newspapers. More people who don't realise that they shouldn't wear spandex. More guys who don't realise that they aren't fooling any one with their ridiculous, cheap looking toupee's or comb overs. More people with more tatoos &/or pierced body parts. More commercials featuring shouting people or little kids you can't understand. More people on TV or radio who interrupt or talk over each other. More blogs about animal control. Net Question
Just out of curiosity, have any of you had a problem connecting with the MCS site? I've had some a couple of times in the last week I would try to access it & a page came up to say the site could not be accessed, that it was down. On two ocassions, I was posting a reply & when I hit the submit button, WHAMMO! the same thing. Had to go into word & do it from memory & wait til the site opened up. Just curious if any of you have had the same problem. RichK Related: 13 comments
Breaking The Envelope
I don’t expect that there is any one out there who is naïve enough to blindly accept what politicians, especially during a campaign, have to say as fact. Let’s face facts kids, there has been an over abundance of BS’ing, prevarication, varnishing, embellishing of the facts & outright, gratuitous fibbing on both sides of the fence. The envelope has been pushed, prodded, bent, torn & now, it seems to have been destroyed. But the big magilla for the moment is, of course, Sarah Palin. So let’s inspect the choice of John McBush. Let’s check out the topics of experience, qualifications & last, but not least, hypocrisy. |
