Doesn't anyone in Clay understand a political power grab??? I posted about Ricks running for two elected offices at one time - one a countywide party office and one as Supervisor of Elections. I was amazed how some people who think they have good intentions - or an overriding love for Republicans more than common sense - could defend Ricks. Why would Ricks run for two offices at once??? Either because she wants to make sure of a win for at least one race and have some base of power (since Ricks is giving up her Green Cove Springs Council seat, but only at the last minute when the winner for Supervisor of Elections takes office; apparently Ricks just can't stand to give up one moment of power), or they just think they know better than anyone else what's good for all of us, and want to make sure their will is imposed on all. Can someone run for two elected offices at one time???
Somebody please help me, I'm confused. I was looking at the ballot for the August races, and I saw what appears to be the same name on the ballot twice. The first time, I was Ricks running for Supervisor of Elections as a Republican. The next time I saw Ricks also running for Republican State Committeewoman. How can this be??? I thought you were only allowed to run for one office at a time??? What worries me even more is that someone running for Supervisor of Elections, which is supposed to be a non-partisan office also wants to the one of the head Republicans in the county and state ... what kind of fair shake are Democrats and independents going to get in Clay County if the Supervisor of Elections is a Republican and helping run the Republican Party? We just saw Recount on HBO, is this going to be just like the lady, Kathleen Somebody, who was the Republican Secretary of State and also Chairman of the the Bush campaign in Florida in 2000? We know how that turned out ... are we going to have the same thing in Clay County now??? Related: read more | 3 comments
