Looking for a Sponsor-Please Help Fight Breast Cancer!
Did you know that it is estimated “one woman will die from breast cancer every 13 minutes?” You can do something to help. Hello my name is Melissa and I am looking for a Sponsor to help with a very special fundraising program, The Breast Cancer 3 Day, benefiting the Susan G. Komen for a Cure Foundation (Tax ID# 23-7825575). This fundraising program is a three day 60 mile walk to help find a cure for breast cancer. It brings people from all walks of life together for one great cause. Eighty-five percent of the net proceeds of this event go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. In 2007, $61 million was raised and invested in breast cancer research, education, and community outreach. This will be my second year walking the 60 miles. Every walker has a goal of $2,200 to raise in donations. I am just about half way there this year. I am asking for your help by making a donation of any size today. In return, your company will receive free advertising on my website www.PinkFeet.net and on the attire I will be wearing during the 60 miles. Or if you are an individual, I will add a name “in memory or honor” on the website and attire as well.
60 miles can be a lifetime
Can you imagine a world without breast cancer? It's hard, given how pervasive the disease is. But go ahead, let yourself envision that world. Because it's not a fantasy. It's a reality within our grasp. Each step you take on the Breast Cancer 3-Day brings us closer to ending the disease forever. Everyone has been touched in some way by breast cancer. And recoiled from the touch. No family should lose a mother prematurely. Or a dear friend, sister, wife, daughter, co-worker. No one of us, just diagnosed, should have to look at the mirror in the morning and say: Will I survive? Everyone deserves a lifetime: We feel it deep in our bones.
Who Knew it took so much to Walk?
My goal of $2200 for my 60 mile walk has been met thanks to some great friends and the generosity of some wonderful strangers! Together we have come closer to finding a cure for breast cancer! However, I have not stopped the fundraising! Tomorrow I fundraise again at Walmart in Orange Park. Check out WWW.WALKFORBOOBS.COM to learn more about my story and walk. So, I have 21 days til I walk 60 miles. Being the first time I have ever done anything like this before, I am amazed at all that it takes to...well....just walk!..... 3 walking shoes, 6pairs of socks, 3 bandanas, 3 sports bras, 3 walking outfits, 1 tube of body glide, 1 package of bandaids, 1 pack of blister aids, braces, wraps, gauze, tape (prevention), 1 walking pack, 1 water bottle holder, 3 hats, 1 bottle of insect repellent, 1 pair sun glasses, 1 rain poncho(again, prevention), 1 tube of sunscreen, 1 stick of lip balm.......

How Far is 60 Miles??
Clearwater to St Petersburg. That is how far 60 miles is and that is just how far I will be walking Oct 19-21. I will be walking in the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer 3 Day with thousands of other men and women. I am walking in memory of my grandmother who I lost August 20 this year who battled breast cancer for over 10 years. The walk is to raise awareness and funds for a cure for breast cancer. This is my first year doing anything like this. As my grandmother's health started to digress, I realized I didnt want to see anyone go through as much pain as she did. My goal is to raise $2200 in donations. So far, I am only a couple hundred away. All I ask now, is that everyone that reads this and wants our children to live in a breast cancer free world, to make a small donation of $10. 100% of proceeds go towards breast cancer research with Susan G Komen Org and National Philanthropic Trust Fund (more information can be found at www.the3day.org).

Breast Cancer Supporter Denied by Southwest Airlines
Well, heading off to my grandmother’s funeral this past Monday, I found myself in a sticky situation with Southwest Airlines. My grandmother passed on Monday from Breast Cancer (we all know I’ve been doing the fundraising to walk in honor of her) and I headed to VA on Southwest for her funeral. I wore my “Save the Ta-Tas” tank top along with my several “fight breast cancer” pins in honor of her. I received great compliments as I walked into the airport, as well as Starbucks giving me half off on my order because they were so moved by my 60 mile walk. I walked up and down the airport (trying to gain more training and miles) as I waited for my plane to board. I finally started to board. Related: read more | 3 comments
Today is the Day
Most of you already know that my grandmother has been bedridden the past several months in a losing battle to Breast Cancer. Well, today she chose to end that battle. She did not give up, however. She fought long and hard for over 10 years. Through treatments and medications, she still managed to hold the family together. To keep a smile on her face and welcome us with her warm embrace. She kept her famous dinners warm and her home made biscuits endless. And even when she lost her husband this past spring, she still tried to hold strong and never give up.
