Iraq and government health care.

Even though I am working for medical insurance, I have some real problems with government healthcare.

Considering our governments recent accomplishments.

We invaded a country that had weapons of mass destruction on good advice from our intelligence agencies. We destroyed the existing army and its infrastructure. We underestimated the number of American troups needed to maintain order. We didn't understand the idea of extended families and how they will protect their members. We didn't realize the countrymen hated each other as much as they despise us. We assumed that after years of training, their army could control its internal population. We believed that a democratic government was right for every country on the planet.

We touted that we could do a background check on foreign nationals in 24 hours, and issue a passport in weeks.

Believe me, the one thing we don't need is our government involved in health care. Lately the government ain't doing so hot. In fact, I can't find many things that our government does efficiently anymore. Politicians wonder why their polls are low...

Islander,

Once again, you're on target.  Also, add to your list, on the top, I might add, the voting public who put those leaders in the positions & the people who didn't bother to vote.  Also, a press that absolutely failed the job, and in the process failed us.  A compliant, rubber stamp Congress did all they could to add insult to injury.

To make matters worse, the current Congress doesn't seem to have much in the way of direction.  I won't put all the blame on them all at once.  After all, it is usually found to be true that it is much more difficult to fix the screw up that someone else made.  They do have that on their plates & the plate has been overflowing for years.

Malo periculosam libertatem quam quietam servitutem. -- Thomas Jefferson

"The commotions that have taken place in America, as far as they are yet
known to me, offer nothing
threatening. They are a proof that the people have liberty enough, and I
could not wish them less than
they have. If the happiness of the mass of the people can be secured at the
expense of a little tempest
now and then, or even of a little blood, it will be a precious purchase.
'Malo libertatem periculosam
quam quietem servitutem.' Let common sense and common honesty have fair
play, and they will soon
set things to rights." --Thomas Jefferson to Ezra Stiles, 1786. ME 6:25

"Governments, wherein the will of every one has a just influence... has its
evils,... the principal of which
is the turbulence to which it is subject. But weigh this against the
oppressions of monarchy, and it
becomes nothing. Malo periculosam libertatem quam quietam servitutem. [I
prefer the tumult of liberty
to the quiet of servitude.] Even this evil is productive of good. It
prevents the degeneracy of
government, and nourishes a general attention to the public affairs."
--Thomas Jefferson to James
Madison, 1787. ME 6:64
