Truth Vs. LiesOver the past few weeks, Blogger PBinCC has been allowed to viciously and maliciously "Lie" about our Clerk of Courts, James Jett, on this blog site. I know Mr. Jett personally, worked in his campaigns, and have 1st hand knowledge of the "Lies" PBinCC is stating regarding pay bonuses, campaign violations, and intimidation of Clerk employees on this site. PBinCC alleges on at least 4 occasions on this site, and I quote, "The Clerk gave employees bonuses during the last election cycle (2004), then requested half back in campaign donations". This is a well documented "lie". Lets look at the facts, and you decide, "Truth Vs. Lies": During the 2004 election cycle, Mr. Wayne Spivey and an employee of the Clerks office made this a campaign issue. The employee had filed complaints regarding these issues with the State Attorney's Office (See case # SA-04-103028), Florida Elections Commission (See case # FEC04-248), Florida Commission on Ethics and the Florida Commission on Human Relations. All of these agencies either refused to investigate, or after extensive investigation found the complaint to be unfounded thus totally exonerating Mr. Jett. But, even after all of this, is there any truth to PBinCC allegations contained in these blogs? The answer is "NO", These are vicious/malicious "LIES". #1... The employee pay bonuses were given in July of 2004 after being promised for over a year by Mr. Jett. FACT...The complaining employee on June 22,2004 stated to Mr. Jett and witnesses, "I can't believe Mr. Spivey is attacking our bonuses. Mr Jett has promised this to us for over a year." (See evidence obtained in FEC04-248 and SA-04-103028). The employee then submitted to Mr. Jett E-Mails printed from her computer substantiating this "FACT". So, PBinCC this is a vicious/malicious "LIE". #2...Not any employee were asked, pressured, or intimidated, either directly or indirectly, by Mr. Jett to donate to his campaign. FACT...SBinCC has listed some of the employees who voluntarily gave money to Mr. Jett's campaign. It is interesting that one additional employee, mysteriously missing from the list, also gave money on May 21, 2004, Paige Barthlow (For complete list see supervisor of Elections website). It should be noted that sworn depositions were taken, interviews held and evidence submitted to these investigatory agencies, yet, not one person stated they had been pressured, asked, or intimidated by Mr. Jett to donate to his campaign. In fact, 15 of the 16 supervisors and over 50 total employees submitted sworn statements denying this ever happened. (See FEC # 04-248 and SA-04-103028). So, PBinCC this is another documented vicious/malicious "LIE". #3...The FACT is, Mr. Jett collected $57,000 from 155 contributors, of which 14 were employees of the clerks office. Almost all donations by employees occurred in May of 2004 and not any employee donated any money at any time after the bonuses were given out in July of 2004 (see campaign treasurers report, FEC # 04-248 and SA-04-103028). So, PBinCC this is another vicious/malicious "LIE". Lastly, get a life, Driving a county vehicle to and from home is legal and proper. Mr. Jett owns a home in St. Augustine, (see St. Johns Co. Property Records) and, just like other county employees who drive or have driven their county vehicles to homes in adjacent counties, this does not conflict with existing policy. I would hope Mr. Jett would not do this to eliminate even the Appearance of Negativity. PBinCC, OUTOFSORT, HELPCLAYCOUNTY, etc... Bloggers should be expected to present facts, especially on a site as reputable as MyClaySun. You Decide, "Truth or Lies"...

Yes he did give out bonuses in 2005 & 2006 however he lets employees know what he has done for them so they feel obligated or scared of losing their job if they don't give to his campaign. He is very manipulating he thinks all the employees owe him and they should bow down and kiss his feet. Joined: 20 Mar 2007
I guess Jazzy tells everybody those are not pictures of the county vehicle at his condo too. I guess he tells everybody he wasn't volunteering while on the county clock. Our part time clerk of court with his full time salary. I guess he tells everybody that wasn't an email of his and him having beers with the County Manager. Guess What Jazzy they don't believe you. We all know the truth. Now they know the truth. Just keep telling everybody those are all lies about you and Dick on the website. I am sure they all believe you just like we do. Joined: 20 Mar 2007
Regarding TruthInCC The part about employees not being asked about donating to Jazzy's campaign there was a meeting between Jimmy Ricks and the Director's and Assistant Director's where he stated a $500 dollar donation from the Directors and $250 from Assistant Directors were expected from them. Jazzy did know about these meeting but never attended . So yes when interviewed they stated that it was from Ricks not Jazzy. As far as the sworn statements from employees, these statements were typed on clerk computers, copies made on clerk copiers at taxers money. I think this is against the election laws since he had to do with his campaign. Yes any employee that was not a Director or Assistant Director was not in that meeting so they were not told to donate to Jazzy's campaign. But if they did not sign that statement they feared losing their jobs. I will not say every donation from clerk employees were out of fear of their jobs but most of them were because they did not want to take the chance that Jazzy would fire them for some other reason. That is the way Jazzy works. For a long time he had Ricks doing it for him so he could fall back on I wasn't at that meeting I did not do it. So TruthInCC I think you need to pick your friends just a little better. Joined: 14 Jun 2007
1. Jazzy files for re-election to open a campaign account 2. Jazzy announces a $1000 bonus for employees the next week. It was previously alleged that Jazzy pressured employees to donate to his campaign via Jimmy Ricks after giving out notices of pending bonuses. Does anyone see a pattern here, or is it just me? Then crank in the following : A. The budget for FY 06/07 for the Clay Clerk's Office planned for a $32,000 deficit. Yet, Jazzy told the BCC he expected to give back more money than ever. Is his budget fudged to permit all this chicanery?

I would like for my County Clerk of Court to live in the County which he is employed. I think all County Goverment Employees should live where they work. Why should the taxpayers pay for a commute from another county.

Marsha, A quick search of the Clay and St. John's Property Appraiser's office shows that James Jett does live in Clay County in the 32003 zip with a homestead showing this is his Primary residence. He also owns property in St. John's County on A1A which is not homesteaded so it is a secondary residence. opdave

Thank you for the info Dave, should have known, did not look. Still, why is a county vehicle being used to go to and from a second home? In some ways it seems petty to point it out, but then again that is how everything gets out of control, in incriments. I would think that the Clerk also owns personal vehicles if he can afford a second home so in my mind that is a vehicle that should not be going where it does. My son in law is in the Military stationed up north in a major urban area that does not even allow him to drive to work because there is no place to park, he has to ride the city bus. If he takes a goverment vehicle out to a case he cannot drive the vehicle home even overnight, or use it for personal use in anyway shape, form or fashion. I'm not so much questioning the incumbent Clerk as I am a policy that allows for waste. Gas, wear and tear, it adds up, if there are others doing the same thing it adds up even more. When some people out there paying the taxes are making ends meet by clipping coupons it is not so petty. People are talking about ...Here are the recent blog postings with the most comments. |

Well...it seems the truth hurts.
It is apparent that there must be some truth to what I blogged, or Jett would not be in federal court, being sued by one of his ex-employees under the whistle blower act. If the employees had an unjustifiable claim, it would have been dismissed by now.
I am sure the taxpayers are footing the bill for Jett's shenanigans on this. You seem to have the insider knowledge on the Clerk's office. Who is paying the bill?
And about the county vehicle...exactly what kind of emergency would the clerk's office have that he could not drive his POV from any of his homes on the weekend to Green Cove Springs. I may have been born yesterday...but it was not in the dark.
