Rutledge to the RescueEvery fourth Monday, local chairs of Clay County Republican clubs and members of the Republican Executive Committee (REC) meet in the chambers of the Town of Orange Park. Last night, Commissioner Rob Bradley was the speaker. And he did a great job. At the end of the meeting, the chair of the REC always lets candidates introduce themselves and have a few minutes to address the crowd. Commissioner Harold Rutledge was there. He, along with Commissioner Bradley, have filed for the new countywide Chairmanship. I think what we're going to hear over the next year is a phrase Comm. Rutledge used on more than one occasion: "Thanks for sending Rutledge to the Rescue." I guess this is a play on his days as a deputy in Putnam County. I could see it if he was a newbie to the political scene, but he's an incumbent. How can you rescue me if you're already there? I know that I pose a rhetorical question but I think this is a sign of what's to come. If these 2 guys wind up being the only choices we have for the proposed new leadership for Clay County at election time, we will all need to be rescued from ourselves. I will then be convinced its not the pool of politicans that are inbred but the residents of the county. We should then be declared a "challenged county" in more ways than one. Boy,,, you guy sure got that right. What a choice. Harold has a problem because he alienated the voter from the get-go because he had the special interest money and the good ole boys backing. OOOPS THEY DROPPED HIM FOR BRADLEY. Bradley being a well spoken atty. of the Thrasher tyoe will much better represent our " largest Industry ". The only one with a bigger problem than Harold is the voter. I am very much affraid the largest percentage of the people who vote will be the un-informed voter. Sadly many good candidates will not be running because it cost mega bucks and the money isn't out there. Submitted by Angela on Thu, 11/01/2007 - 5:48am.
Ex don't throw in the towel yet. We need to work hard to reach as many voters as we can. We need to continue to get the message out that we need voters at the ballot box. This is about the future of Clay and what we the voters want it to look like instead of a bunch of big money people attempting to influence the elections. I am not so sure about the mega bucks because I have seen some of those Commissioners and others win those positions with less than most peoples house payment. We need quailty people to run against these people and we need voters. Get Out the Vote. Submitted by ex-oficio on Thu, 11/01/2007 - 8:07am.
Angela I appreciate your optimism but you need to look at the financial reports for the last 4 or 5 elections. I have been singing your song for 35 years and been a player. This county truly is different. Like my neighbor says " politics is bad every where but Clay,,, It's worse here" People are talking about ...Here are the recent blog postings with the most comments. |

If we send him far enough, think he'll stay there?
Now, if someone else said this, it might be a good campaign slogan, but to spout it yourself on more than one occasion seems a bit pompous to me.
