Requested items include gently used infant and children’s clothing, household items, toys, sports equipment, kitchen items, books, knick-knacks and collectibles, as well as movies and music CDs. Large household appliances cannot be accepted.

The yard sale will be held at the Doctors Inlet Civic Center on Peoria Road from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.Item donations may be dropped off at the Shelter on any day of the week except Thursday or Sunday between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. until Feb. 21. The Shelter is located at 2913 County Road 220, just west of Knight Boxx Road, Middleburg.

Since 1991, the Shelter has successfully operated as a no-kill shelter because of community support and financial contributions from both individuals and businesses. In that time, over 9,000 animals have been placed into loving homes.

Since I'm way too lazy to do my own garage sale (and they aren't that lucrative since I always apply time vs. money), I LOVE being able to donate my extra 'stuff' to a worthy cause.  I am in the process of painting and updating my home (see other Sunflower blogs), and am delighted to read this announcement of the Safe Animal Shelter sale.  I promise no junk, and hope that my donated items will bring in at least a little $$.

Other MCS bloggers - please spread the word and help this very worthy organization!

Thanks,
JudyB

Thanks Sunflower! The up side is that you will get a receipt for next year's taxes when you drop off your items. In reality, everybody wins!

Chanel, the timing for your article couldn't have possibly come at a better time for MCS bloggers.

Some folks have been eating up the blog space ranting and raving about Clay County Animal County.  Well, the Safe Animal Shelter takes some of the burden off CCAC by taking strays or giveaways and finding them appropriate homes.

Another blog discussed the name chosen for a new political action committee.  There isn't any dispute about the Safe Animal Shelter's name.  When an animal enters, it is safe.  The only euthanizations are performed to ease an animal's suffering, or when the animal can't be socialized to make it safe for adoption.  Animal Control probably puts down more animals in a month than the Safe Animal Shelter has in its entire existence.

Granted, the roles are different, but in the midst of those two unrelated blog topics, the Safe Animal Shelter should stand out as a shining example of what could be for both.

Chanel - do you have any idea how the Shelter made out with the sale?  My sister and I donated some items and I intended to run over on Saturday, but didn't.  Just wondered if they considered it a success.  If it was in the paper, I missed seeing it.

Thanks,
JudyB

You know, that's a great question! SAS events usually go so swimmingly that I can't imagine it was a flop. I'll talk to SAS about it! Thanks for your interest... and it was great to meat you! :D
