Exciting Scientific Discovery

Research has led to the discovery of the heaviest element yet known to
science. The new element, Governmentium (Gv), has one neutron, 25
assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons, and 198 assistant deputy neutrons,
giving it an atomic mass of 312.

These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are
surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons. Since
Governmentium has no electrons, it is inert; however, it can be detected,
because it impedes every action with which it comes into contact.

A minute amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction that would normally
take less than a second to take from four days to four years to complete.
Governmentium has a normal half-life of 2-6 years; it does not decay, but
instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant
neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places.

In fact, Governmentium's mass will actually increase over time, since each
reorganization will cause more morons to become neutrons, forming
Isodopes. This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to
Believe that Governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a critical
concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as critical
Morass. When catalyzed with money, Governmentium becomes Administratium,
an element that radiates just as much energy as Governmentium since it has
half as many peons but twice as many morons.

Lily;

My retired GS wife is rolling on the floor. She was one of the 'lepton-like particles'. She didn't run the place, she just worked there.

I may have to send you the medical bill if I can't bring her back from the edge. This has got to be the best one I've seen.  Laughing

Dear Finder,

Please don't take this as confrontational because its not meant to be but I'd like to ask you a question. I've read alot of from different parties here that seem to have a dislike for the government and the workers.

I dislike taxes and politics for that matter but not like you guys. Is there a reason? Just wondering.

Entertaining read.  Lets not forget that our govenment isn't the best, but its the best the world has to offer.

Very entertaining, you need to send that out for publication.  Leno or Letterman either one would love it.  Saturday Night Live perhaps?

I was a GS once as well a long time ago and it is just as applicable back then.

Lily,

Before you send anything out, you should know that I got this from one of friends @ 2 - 4 months ago.  I have no idea where he got it or how old it is.  I don't care.  It still gives great laugh factor.

I am sorry fans, that was not written by me and I am sorry that I wasn't more clear. I assumed (my bad!) that with the other humor articles I have posted you would not leap automatically to that conclusion. I will make sure I place a disclaimer on what I have not written in the future. I am very happy you all enjoyed it.

Cookie, we could stress the ethernet with reasons we dislike government in general. My biggest gripe with them is they purposely refuse to use any common sense with the policies they institute. They do not exercise their brain the slightest. It's a complete "This is the way we have always done it" mentality.

I will give you just one annoying example. I went to the library to inform them that this summer will be the beginning of the releasing of Meg Gardiner's novels in this country. I only wanted to inform them and that they should write this down to be on the lookout for them as I believe people will not only love her writing but will line up to reserve them. The very first words out of this poor library drone was "We can't do that". I have found that everywhere I have gone if it involves a government worker of any kind, inevitably the first words will be "We can't do that". Doesn't matter what it is. These people's minds have been crammed into their velvet lined boxes just awaiting the descent six feet under. (Metaphor for a coffin.) They will never attempt to think for themselves as the government machine does not allow it.  I am sure others will contribute to this. I don't want to hog the forum.

Rich, this thing is at least 20 years old. Again, I'm sorry for the confusion. Mea culpa...

Later.

Cookie;

No offense taken.

I can’t say for sure why some people dislike government and its employees more than others. Some just don’t like government at all. Some have an issue with ‘double dipping’. That is, drawing a government pension and still working or worse yet still working for the government.

Me, I’m fine with it. My attitude is if it is the law and you don’t like the law, don’t gripe at the person drawing the check, gripe at the idiots that wrote the law. I drew my Navy paycheck for over 15 years while still working for government contractors. I can tell you without hesitation that I did not lose one second of sleep over it.

You can find a large blog on the subject of double dipping right here on MCS. The title is: ‘Sheriff Rick Beesler leads the State!’ It was posted on 02/26/2008. You might find it interesting if you haven’t already seen it. You might want to put on a set of welding glasses though. It gets pretty hot in some places.

As for the GS employees, mostly I think you would find there are two types. They are either very good or very bad with the latter being the larger group. Many just don’t seem to measure up and don’t care because you can’t fire them. I don’t mean that literally but it is darn close.

My wife did 20 years as a GS. She would have stayed longer but she just couldn’t stand it anymore. There were just way too many people that were basically useless. If they ever had to get a real job and make a profit they would have been on welfare. Well they pretty much were but it looked like a legitimate job.

Trust me Lily’s blog has a LOT of truth to it.

This is what I found out with some looking around on the internet:

New Chemical Element Discovered by William DeBuvitz

This bit of humor was written in April 1988 and appeared in the January 1989 issue of The Physics Teacher. William DeBuvitz is a physics professor at Middlesex County College in Edison, New Jersey (USA). He retired in June of 2000.

One website gave 1998 as written and 1999 as published.  It appears that this is one of those items that went through emails and was changed here and there at the whim of the sender or was copied and sent with different versions of the original.  Some sites only give William DeBuvitz as a tentative author.  I guess you would have to find a copy of The Physics Teacher to find out for sure.

At any rate, this was the first time I had seen it and appreciate the humor.

Interesting spin this blog has taken, I thought the same thing when I read the original blog - that is about government workers.

Having been in and around the government now for 25 years of my life, peppered with some private industry episodes, government workers are no different than private industry when it comes to work ethic.  I've seen private industry workers in everything from sales to manufacturering come up with all kinds of excuses, shortcuts, napping tactics, etc...

Also, government workers can be fired, the old adage that they cannot is very, very outdated.  It might be a little harder, but in reality it is more clearly defined.  It can be done with a little work, most managers are just not willing to do the work.

As far as double dipping, when you have earned a pension - it is earned - period.  If you start a business and sell it, just because you worked hard and sold the business doesn't mean you can't start another!

I've been in both government and private, for the most part I would take government any day.  You have the same segmented microcosm of society in both - but the government setting is more structured...

Since you never try to take credit for something someone else did, and because of your astute wit and (at times) sharp tongue it sure seemed like something you could have very easily created.

Still enjoyed it though!

Read, thanks for looking that up. I have also just buzzed about the Google listings and found a couple of variations. Angela's inquisitive ways are rubbing off on many of us. Actually, as humor, it never would have occurred to me to think it was listed anywhere and now I know better.

Mike, has Mrs. Mike recovered yet? I'm retired and can't afford my own doctor bills.  :>)

Lily,

All of you have rubbed off a little on all of us; all the best characteristics that is.

In the company of smart people, I have to learn to stay on my toes and try not to “open mouth and insert foot.”

I know I would be careful not to correct anyone’s spelling around here; even though I have done it once when someone was repeating the same error over and over.  He knows who he is.  I had to do it in his case because it was like letting someone walk around with toilet paper stuck on their shoe and not telling them.  Out of “put myself in their shoes”; sometimes you have to speak up in a respectful way.  There’s a certain amount of endearment being earned here by the frequent writers.

Hilarious!!  As a former Navy nuke who loved studying atomic energy and chemistry, this was great fun to read.

Marsha's right - I would never have doubted for one second that lily had written it.

lily - thanks for passing along a laugh.
