If you're needing a quick fix. They use the ground beef, but the flavor is more like I remember from Texas. The enchiladas are good, and they use lots and lots of Mexican cheese.....mmmmm! :o) KC Submitted by stryker on Fri, 04/04/2008 - 8:25pm.
Thank you Finder.....mouth is watering already and I will try it soon. I don't eat the ground hamburg at La Nopalera, stick to the cheese, chicken (which is shredded..why not the beef) and beans. Not overly fond of their rice either. The drive isn't too bad.......will give me a reason to visit my wine shop KC..........right, El Apache's not bad. Actually none are bad, just haven't found a really good one yet! Stryker

There is a Mexican restaraunt we've found just south of Palatka on US 17 in a small town named San Mateo. It looks like a like a little "Hole in Wall" place but the food is EXCELLENT! I think the name of the place is Chico's. We were just talking about driving down there the other day. If you are just out taking a drive some weekend it is well worth your while to stop in and sample the fare. Submitted by stryker on Sat, 04/05/2008 - 8:30pm.
Thanks Walt....I'll certainly keep it in mind. Don't get that far south often, but when I do, I'll give it a try. And "Welcome" to the blogs....glad to have you aboard. Stryker People are talking about ...Here are the recent blog postings with the most comments. |

We happened to stumble on this place when we were looking for a golf shop that hasn't been built yet.
It is in St John's Town Center Mall. You take Big Island Dr to the right and it is at the very end.
It is a ways to drive to get there but it is worth the trip. At least in our opinion.
I had the Brisket Tacos (real shredder beef brisket), my wife had the fajita soft tacos. Real beef not hamburg! We did lunch but they have a dinner menu also.
The chips and Salsa were good. Salsa is made on sight. They have a FRESH Guacamole that they make at your table. We didn't try it but one the store clerks we met that had lived in Carlsbad said he had tried it and it was great.
Pat and I tried La Nopalera in Fleming Island twice. Couldn't handle the ground beef.
Here's a link to their web site. Check it out.
