Cancer claimed another today

This morning at 2:45 am my uncle succumber to lung cancer after a wonderful, yet too short life.  Today I grieve him, and grieve for his wife, my aunt who faces her 'golden' years of retirement (years of planned cruises, trips to see the grandkids and friends, days by the pool, and more) alone.

I hate cancer, and I hate smoking which is what caused his lung cancer I'm sure.

But instead of writing about the evils of that, instead I write about the wonderful man who loved me like a daughter since he had only boys, always made me laugh, was like a father to my dad, and more.  On a professional level, he retired as Vice President of the Steelworkers Union a few years back, always working and fighting for the rights of workers.  He truly believed that everyone had a right to work for a fair living and had a right to be treated fairly.

I will miss him, so here's to him.

p.s.  I will walk in him memory in Relay For Life of OakLeaf on March 23rd.  If you'd like to donate to my team, please do so at www.acsevents.org/relay/fl/oakleaf/drewsgang or sign up yourself to walk for someone you miss or in honor of someone blessed enough to still be here at www.acsevents.org/relay/fl/oakleaf

My heart goes out to you.  I lost my dad to cancer in '93 (3 weeks before my son was born) and my Uncle in '04.  I have 2 friends batteling cancer: Colon & Multiple Myeloma.   I am passing along the website to friends & families asking for donations Cool and I love the lumanarie idea!

My son's karate school (Keystone) is planning a "kick-a-thon" to raise money for the Relay for Life.  I am hoping next year to get a team together for his karate school to participate.  This year it was just too short a notice for us (& unfortunately that Sat afternoon the kids have another karate committment in Jax).  But our kids are doing a demo on that Saturday morning at KHHS.

Again this week.... the woman who's been like a grandmother to my brother and I for most of our lives also passed away from cancer this week.  We grieve her loss but are glad that she suffers no more, and that she led a long and meaningful life.

We love you "Grandma"
