"Report abuse" links

Good afternoon, fellow MCS'ers

You might have noticed by now the addition of the "Report abuse" buttons to all blogs and comments.

"Report abuse" appears as part of the "Related Links" section under each blog, and as part of the "Tools" section under each comment. It looks like this:

and

We installed this as a precautionary measure. If you were to click "Report abuse," a message would be sent to us alerting us to the flagged piece of content. This allows you to immediately let us know when something might be inappropriate. It keeps you from having to take the time to e-mail one of us, and it allows us to know exactly when/where trouble might have arisen.

Any questions? Ask away!

While I'll admit that Smuncey may have a legitimate point, I have to ask @ other fellow blogers.  Do some of their blogs/replies, constitute abuse?  When a conservative Republican point of view is offered, is that not a form of abuse?  HEY!  I'm married!  To a woman.  Is that not a form of abuse by a godess?  Help me please!!  I'm sinking here & I don't see a life preserver in sight. Jonathon, you're killing me.  Your darned button isn't going to do me a bit of good.  HELP!!!!!!!!  JATFUR.

I don't think I understand how this Report Abuse thingy works. Iam guessing something on my last thread aggravated somebody resulting in the whole thing being yanked. This was especially annoying as I never got to read Sunflower's post about me.  I have no argument if MCS feels the need to do that but it would be nice to be informed of a specific reason for that action. Who complained? Who determined what was inappropriate? I just finished reading something posted by "gottasayit" which I deem very offensive but I would never clamor to have it yanked.  It puts that person into a category to be ignored like a few others.

So, could we please have a more comprehensive explanation, Johnathan?

Thank you in advance.

A little more comprehensive coverage would be nice or maybe a report on the blogs saying why the blog or thread was yanked would be acceptable.

I say lily.  Respectfully, to your fabulous writing talents, i was on the fence of your last blog, a little on the wild side, but i suppose that's nice every once in a while.  Some bloggers find it necessary to ridicule a person without understanding what a person is trying to convey and this what happened with your last blog.  Although i have no clue what you were trying to say and yeah i found the name calling a little contradictive.  On the same token, i mean no harm to lily for she has a wonderful way of expressing herself that i find interesting.

I tapped the report abuse button for the thread by the one who you referred to.  Only b/c i now find that on the blogs, disrespect to one person or a family leads to no good and quite frankly embarks on unacceptable.  The new tool is good but an explanation to follow is a fine idea, less we stick to personal e-mails.

Gee, I am sure my comments titled Lilyslore - a boon to the blog didn't get the thread yanked as I only said good things - honest.  I wish I'd copied it from Word so I still had it, but here goes to the best of my recollection:

Lily - I admire your way with words so very much and am admittedly a little envious of your descriptive prose.  I had stated in an earlier comment that I didn't understand how it comforted you to listen to those radio guys when you were already feeling down.

Then, as you had explained your reasoning to the others, I gained through your dialog with them, an understanding of your initial "Putz" blog statements.

Honest, that's pretty much all I said, so I'm sure it wasn't my post that 'disappeared' the entire thread, and I do not understand why it was removed.  I just wanted you to know that I appreciate your commentary and most of the time I agree with you - and that I NEVER scroll past any statements with your well-known avatar - I love it.

Thanks.
Judy B.

Haha, RichK- only you could turn the "Report Abuse" button into a philosophical construct :)

More about how the system works: If you click "Report Abuse" next to a comment or blog, that piece of content does not automatically go away. It simply alerts the "people behind the curtain" that something might be inflammatory. We review the flagged content and if it does violate our Terms of Service, we will pull the content.

Frankly, you guys produce so much great content that it's hard for us to keep up with everything. This is essentially just a way for you to immediately let us know when something is happening.

Lily - I'm not sure why your blog was unpublished. It might have been a result of our tweaking the Report Abuse system. Either way, I apologize, and your blog "A Parade of Putzs" is now back. Here's a link in case you need it.

Jonathan,

Ahaaa! So it's the great and powerful OZ that will control MCS blogosphere---from behind a curtain, no less!

Jonathon,

Thanks for the explanation.  Philisophical construct?  Others ask why.  I ask, why not?  I have even progressed to the point, philisophically speaking, of course, of being able to answer the question, "Why is the sky blue?"

But I do have a question, now that Pioneer brought it up.  Why, with most super heroes wearing capes & tights, are you saddled with a curtain & a green shirt?  It seems a puzzlement to me. :)  JATFUR.

OK, yes, I see all the points all of you are making. I can't disagree with any of you.  Sunflower, thanks for the support. This is what I love about the blog here. Even when we disagree, for the most part, the back and forth dialogue is usally above par.  Foxx, you are wondeful as always. I did not quite grasp the first sentence of the final paragraph but I'm sure you are siding with the better part of our sensibilities.

As to my little essay, perhaps I did go over the top but as an ardent admirer of Jim Steinman, who's music is always described by critics as "over the top", I also agree with his comeback which is "you have to go over the top to see what's on the other side." So, I will continue to do so but I will choose my words a bit more carefully. To do otherwise would turn my essays into something that I don't want to write and you, my marvelous friends, would not want to read. Think how dull some of the postings would be without Solo's unique perspective.  :>)

By the way, Jonathan, that link does not work. Happy Tweaking. :>)
