"Exercising my second amendment rights" blog by Winn
Hello, all- Sorry for the confusion over Winn's blog (which is now live), but allow me to explain what happened. Our newly added "report abuse" button to the blogs and comments is what pulled Winn's blog, not a member of MCS.com. Like I mentioned in an earlier blog, the "report abuse" button was designed to be another set of eyes for content that might violate our terms of service. This weekend, enough people clicked the "report abuse" button on Winn's blog that the system said (use your best robot voice for this) "Oh no, a lot people don't like this blog, I had better unpublish it" It was the system working too well, and we are going to address this issue today. Again, sorry for the confusion.

Jonathon, Thanx for the explanation. In times like this, most of us are in the dark & a bit of shedded light goes a long way. Since the Supreme Court ruling, we've had a number of discussions on the 2nd Amendment. I have a couple of questions @ the "Report Abuse" feature. I did not reply, but did keep up with Winn's blog & the reponses. In my opinion, I saw nothing that I would consider abuse. Is there a system feature that has oversight to ensure that the "Report Abuse" button is not, itself, being abused. By that I mean is there a final arbiter who reviews the blog & replies to determine if there is actually some abuse or if it might be a blogger or bloggers just pushing the button & in effect is saying, "Neener, neener. I don't like you & I'm going to get your blog pulled?" I would hope that no one would stoop to that level, but that is my suspicious, non trusting nature. Thanks for the info in advance. JATFUR. At times, I would think that the Report Abuse button is hit because it has taken the place of where Read More used to be. It could be hit accidentially. Maybe you could move Report Abuse further down the line and put it in bold print. Report Abuse doesn't mean that you don't like the content or the opinions, it means it violates the sites Terms of Service or Privacy Policy in some way.

Man, I hate it when these darn computers do what we tell them to do! Thanks for the explanation. I think a lot of us were surprised to find it pulled and I'm sure that we are glad that it wasn't intentional. Despite a glitch now and then I think you guys do a great job with this site. Looking at some of the other Sun sites I'd say we're pretty much a handful to keep up with at times. Thanks again for keeping this site going. It serves what I feel is a valuable purpose to this community. Mike Heemer Submitted by SoloVoce on Mon, 06/30/2008 - 1:55pm.
Mike, I must take a large exception to your way of thinking. IMHO, this is one of the most well behaved, respectful, sensitive & loving group of people it has ever been my pleasure with which to be aquainted. "A handful?' How dare you sir? I ask, how dare you impugn the obvious integrity shown on these blogs by these wonderful people? Shame, shame. That's my suck up story & I'm sticking to it. JATFUR. RichK PS. I think Read has a good idea. Hope every one is watching the weather. It looks nasty out there. I agree with Read44 that the 'report abuse' feature be moved over to the right of the 'read more' and 'reply' links. We are creatures of habit and I've come close to hitting that 'abuse' button, accidentally of course. If that's not too much trouble, could your programmer please honor that request? Thanks. Jonathan, thank you for your explanation I sure am glad I held my fingers from the key board from prematurely writing what I wanted to with out explanation from the staff of M.C.S. I certainly wanted to lambaste someone for the removal of my blog. It had me boggled as to why it got pulled, I have seen worse posted. It just didn’t seem like something M.C.S. would have done especially after reading content, and topics of past blogs.
I did post a couple of blogs that in my opinion was mild in comparison to what I really wanted to Wright. I removed two of them; I should have waited for further explanation before posting them. Ya’ll would have most likely laughed at the way I was ranting in my house. I woke my wife up by being loud with this is a bunch of B.S., it’s all good now. So if I have offended anyone for my mild rants about my blog disappearing, I would like to apologize, especially to the staff of M.C.S. They have always been most respectful of any content that we have ever posted, and have removed very few blogs in comparison of the many that has been written.
I would hope the reason the blog got pulled was from what read44 has stated. The abuse button has replaced the read more button. I have almost done it my self. It would probably be a good idea to move it. Jonathan, while on the subject solo has a point about abusing the abuse button. I have never used it so I really don’t know how it works. If the button is used, do the persons using it have to give an explanation as to why they think the content is an abuse of policy? Can you track how many times any person over a given period of time has used the button, and why?
I would hope that if someone had a problem with any blog they would have enough respect to explain to the blogers just what they feel is abusive about a blog that has been written. If you consider the many personalities, and the diverse topics of discussion placed on this site we all need to pat our selves on the back, I think we all do a very good job of keeping the policies of My Clay Sun intact, and above board.

I just noticed that the Report abuse option is not there any longer unless you are logged on. If it was that way before, I didn't notice it. They must have a way of tracking who clicks on it now. Don't know. People are talking about ...Here are the recent blog postings with the most comments. |

While you are at it, would you and your team consider having the edit available on an original blog? We don't have that tool to remove our own blog if we don't like where it is going.
It might be helpful for some of the blogs that start out on one subject and are turned into a debate over how we treat each other. It might be nice if the person who originally created the blog could just pull the plug and start over.
Something for all to consider.
