Just in: Help needed in finding monkey in OakLeaf

Google/Wikipedia
A pair of Japanese macaque cuddle up at the Milwaukee County Zoological Gardens in Milwaukee, Wisc., in 2006. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is looking for a similar macaque that was spotted in OakLeaf Plantation.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is seeking the public’s help to find a primate that has been sighted several times in the Eagle Landing subdivision of OakLeaf Plantation.

The monkey, believed to be a Japanese macaque, has been seen on Castle Oaks Court. State investigators received information and photos of the animal recently, said a Fish and Wildlife Commission statement.

“We have tentatively identified it as a Japanese or snow macaque, and we need the public’s assistance,” Lt. David Lee, a commission investigator, said in the statement. “Do not attempt to capture or trap this animal yourself. We also ask that no one attempts to feed it. The monkey has large canine teeth and can inflict a painful bite.”

Anyone who sees the monkey should call the state’s toll-free Wildlife Alert number at (888) 404-3922.

“We are borrowing a trap from the Jacksonville Humane Society and will place it in the wooded area away from residences,” Lee said. “We are also installing a trail camera to attempt to get photos of the primate. We are also working with the Jacksonville Zoo on the capture of the animal.”

No permit has been issued to anyone in the area to keep a captive Japanese macaque, he said.

Dear MyClaySun.com:

This is not a joke.

I know, it seems like one, and were this April 1st I wouldn't have been able to convince myself otherwise.

There really are reports of a monkey running loose in Oakleaf.

Jonathon,

I don't think this report is all that strange.  I mean if we were to tally up all the knuckle dragging bottom feeders in the area, no one would even notice a monkey or two.  But hey, don't believe me.  Just check out the paper on a daily basis.  Better yet, check out the rush hour traffic accident reports.  Rampant Gumpism all over the place.  JATFUR.

If you notice bananas missing......you may have a monkey hiding in your closet.

Maybe we can send the idiot that caused a semi to damage a bridge, crash into the water and darn near kill a driver out there to help capture this thing. She certainly did a fine job of protecting that poor snake.

I heard two newscasts that said the snake caused the wreck.  I said "The lady caused the wreck"!  I could not believe it.

As for the monkey, I hope I don't see it, it is ugly.

I would hope that since we are talking anout monkeys, we might at least get one of their opinions on whether or not the primate pictured is considered ugly.  Heck, for all we know, she might be babealicious, or, if it is a male ( I couldn't quite make it out) could be the next best thing since Bradd Pitt or whoever the newest male flavor of the month is.

The fish police should put up a do not feed the monkey sign and people will dis obey the sign and feed the monkey, oh wait, if the monkey bites one of the feeders of said monkey, who would get sued....Innocent
