Why Candidates Decide the Run

My perception of the above stems from observation.

Any one who decides to give it a try thinks they have something to offer and can truely make a difference.  As to why a certain office is chosen over another has many reasons.  There are those who simply cannot give it up and runs for whatever office is available.

Most voters do not like to see a candidate unoposed.  Voters also like a choice, especialy if the persons running carries baggage from a previous elective office.

When did it come to this?
Lack of leadership and ethics in the Clay County Clerk's office under the 21-year "good ole boy politician" James Jett has caused undue pain and suffering. Deputy clerks have been threatened with their livelihood and its still costing the taxpayers a bundle.

First James Jett extorts campaign contributions from his deputies. The States Attorney investigates but doesn't even notify the whistleblowers. Then Jett pays back his loyal clerks with $80,000 in bonuses just before the 2004 elections. That's taxpayer's money! The effect was that taxpayers paid for Jett's reelection. An $80,000 payoff can swing most small county elections. Deputy Clerks know the truth but are afraid to talk. Their jobs are at risk but the bonuses covered their campaign contributions.

Next, Jett campaigns from the courthouse and from his county SUV, which he has driven 24/7. He claims it's for emergencies and the taxpayer continue to pay for all that gas and oil. How many emergencies has Jett responded to in his three terms as clerk? Even the clothing he wears as Clerk is paid for by taxpayers. Where is the outrage? Why has the Clerk's office sank so low? Shouldn't the courthouse be a model for justice?

Please do all of Clay County a favor and give them a 150th birthday present on August 26, 2008 by electing a new Clerk, WAYNE SPIVEY.

PS To date Jett has refused to pay back the county for the private use of the public vehicle: to home, for shopping and to political events. He has yet to accept responsibility...not to mention the Bar-B-Que business that used to be run out of the deputy clerk's break room within the courthouse. Photos were made but it's all just water under the bridge...or was it sauce?
