Lake bed patrolsI read that the lake area residents of Keystone Hgts. are continuing to have problems with people destroying the lake beds. The Sheriff's answer to the problem was to advertise for deputies to work OVERTIME to try and catch the perps. No one volunteered, and no one had the intestinal fortitude to have someone do the duty so here is what was done. The crackerjack robbery/homicide unit was utilized to try and catch the desperados. Now remember we have how many unsolved robberies and how many unsolved or ineptly handled homicides) to date. Can someone furnish the answer? Anyhow, instead of these specialized investigators and supervisors working on the very cases the unit was created to work (nicknamed the untouchables) they are instead being used for covert operations for lake bed perp. interception, or LBPI. Don't get me wrong, these perps shoud be found and prosecuted (maybe the unit is trying to improve its conviction rate) but isn't this the job of the COPS unit? Is the COPS unit too busy setting up move over traps like they did a couple of weeks ago? Was the Sheriff really going to pay OVERTIME when we are in such dire straits budget wise? Well maybe we aren't that bad off seeing that ole "No Stick Rick" is about to "give back 2 million dollars" for political gain. Ask around about how the Legal Adviser locked himself and an ex-sgt out of thier vehicle after finally finding a suspicious vehicle. Whats next, a reserected version of the old Andy Griffith show with "check point chickee"? Laughable, unless you work here. I have no doubt that your account of this situation is accurate.
Shouldn't the Sheriff's Office had some clue that this situation has enforcement issues? Shouldn't the County Atty. and the Sheriff's Office have had some communication between them about this. Why did the Sheriff send specialized investigators to do this instead of handling the unsolved cases? I ask again if this is not a COPS Unit detail? Terrible misuse of manpower especially if the situation can not be handled in conventional ways.
This whole thing is the Sheriff trying to reach out politically to the residents. This situation did not happen yesterday, they have been complaining about it for years. Why the rersponse now? Totally misdirected and inept as usual.
You have to admit that them locking themselves out of the car is funny. Could have been dangerous for the real deputy, that is why wantabe deputies are usually told they can not ride. It is different when the wantabe is the Sheriff's legal advisor. That deputy must have lost the rock/sissor/paper contest and had to take him along.

If they were patroling our neighborhoods like they should, the Mike Taylor sign in Lake Asbury might not have been sawed in half. Submitted by semiredneck on Fri, 07/11/2008 - 3:27pm.
Thats a good one. Any deputy who shows up around Keystone sticks out like a sore thumb. Then the deputy can't drive where an atv gos. Good luck. Submitted by FastOne on Fri, 07/11/2008 - 9:52pm.

Bush, who's entering his final months before his term-limited forced retirement, next brings up ATV use on lake beds, calling on Chief Assistant County Attorney Fran Moss ..... The Sheriff can't keep deputies out there, and Code Enforcement doesn't have the personnel or power to stop it, she says. Even worse, for the residents who oppose the ATV use, it doesn't seem to be illegal.
How does this fit in with your current rant about the Sheriff? Care to give Mr Scruby or his assistants some legal advise here?
