Burglars steal four cars from an Orange Park car dealership
Police are searching for auto thieves who stole four cars from an Orange Park car dealership, including one that was driven off the showroom floor and through the glass doors.
Parts manager Donnie Cope arrived to work at 7 a.m. Sunday at the Mike Shad Nissan dealership on Wells Road. He discovered that chained gates had been cut, the showroom doors and windows were smashed and desks and storage cabinets had been ransacked.
Thieves escaped with four cars, including two 2008 Nissan Sentras, a 2009 Maxima and a 2007 Versa, plus two digital cameras, a car navigation system, several temporary dealer tags and several sets of keys č all together valued at about $79,000.
The cleaning crew reported everything was in order when they left the dealership around 11 p.m. Saturday.
Dog attacks boy and grandfather
A 9-year-old boy and his grandfather were hospitalized after being attacked by a 1-year-old American bulldog around 10 p.m. Sunday.
Roger Hartley, of Painted Pony Road in Keystone Heights, had been taking care of his son’s dog. Hartley was eating dinner with the dog underneath the table. His grandson hugged the dog and the dog bit his face. As the child tried to run away, the dog bit the back of his thigh. Hartley grabbed the attacking dog and the dog bit and broke his hand, causing several lacerations. Hartley was able to secure the dog in a cage before heading to the hospital.
Hartley was treated and released at Orange Park Medical Center while his grandson was transferred to Shands Jacksonville for more treatment. Animal control is investigating and evaluating the dog.
