It's Spelled WEISENBURGER

Marsha it was nice to meet you Saturday

You reminded me that many may have trouble with the spelling

Here's how it is done.   I before E except when it's ME

There's only 1 S in Super

Now it's time to grab a burger

Actually to look at it you would never know it's a very bad misspelling of an Irish name.

Seems 3 Irishmen came over many generations ago and non knew how to spell their name and they were apparently difficult to understand so we  got hung with this.   Each Brother's line resulted in a different spelling that has continued to this day.  In my hometown Phone Book there are 3 or 4 "ALSO SEE" spellings.  Anyway Marsha no problem!   You can call me anything and I hope it's commissioner before too long.

Dan;

Now that is class. Someone that doesn't take themselves so seriously that they can't snicker once in once in a while at their own expense.  Smile

I like your style. But as you said 'the longest name on the ballot'.

Laughing  You're Irish alright, and real familar with that Blarney Stone Laughing  I won't hold it against you I have a wee bit of Irish in my ancestry as well.   I never forget a face but names kill me.

It was good to meet you as well!  I intend to cast my vote for you in the Primary but when that is past...and you're campaigning against Fred.......we're going to do this with the spirit and integrity that the office of Commissioner deserves and give Clay County two good choices for the job (and I will stomp on yer feet and pull your hair when no one is looking like any decent redheaded woman would.) Wink

Don't be too dissapointed that you're my second choice, so long as we get out of this "rut" we're in and we don't go the easy way I know we'll have a good Commish for the 5th District.   Hey, if you win I want to serve on the next CRC.

It is my understanding that the Governor shortened his name for politial purposes.  Perhaps JD you should shorten yours if you have greater political aspirations.  I can not advise you as to what to consider maybe just JDW is good.  It is easier to spell and would fit comfortably on the Ballot, then you go from the longest to the shortest.  I am not sure how that converts to votes having either the longest or the shortest, but it is a thought.  I think that JDW would eliminate the potential for others to connect you with the Blarney stone.  I am sure it would make you appear to be more Southern. lol

Check and see if the Republican primary is open to Independents, if so I will vote for you in the primary too. I do not think they would let me though, hey I was willing to try. lol

I do have to say that I have to reserve my individual vote for myself in November even if you are my opponent.  So my endorsement for you is limited to the August primary.  Hmm you may not want my endorsement since I am not affiliated with any large block of votes. lol.

I think the two of us could qualify for the most mispelled and mispronounced names ever to appear in one election.

Good luck in August but before you go further we need to know what J_____ D_____is?  Don't make us guess.

Marsha   there is no greater wrath on this earth than an irate red headed irish woman!

Me dear sainted mum was a red headed irish woman and although we wee ones meant her no harm, it seems we were always receiving her wrath!  Being the eldest I was always the one to receive credit for what ever the others did, like they couldn't get in trouble on their own.

Fred, Thanks very much for the back door endorsement  (lol)  The primary is now a closed primary because YOU are in it for November!

I welcome the competition and good luck to us both (but a little more for me)

The JD is James Daniel,  My mum wanted to call me Danny and my dad wanted me named after him.   After mum was passed out the nurse made me into a JD and so it is.

I have a nom-de-plume also for my music compositions but that shall remain anoymous.

No I would never change my name.   My mum wanted me to change it when I was in the service to Danny Sullivan in honour of her father.   That would have caused confusion had I gone into racing automobiles further than I did.

That one was too easy.  If I left this site and had to spell your last name, that would be hard.

I'll work on it though, I have the burger part down.

Your story about Irish names reminds me of a joke.  This is language related, so bear with me.

In the 1920's two Jews from Europe meet in America.  They get to talking in the mother tongue, and one introduces himself as Shaun Ferguson.

?

Vi azoy heyst a yid Shaun Ferguson? (How is a Jew named Shaun Ferguson?)

It turned out that years before Shaun had another name, but he had been sick when he got to Ellis Island and had been sent back to Europe.  Back home he had recovered and decided to make another try at emigrating.  However, he was afraid they would know who he was, so he took on an assumed name.

Standing in line at Ellis Island, "Shaun" started getting nervous. Standing in front of the naturalization agent, he realized he had forgotten his fictitious name.  When the agent asked his name, "Shaun" panicked and blurted out:

Ich bin schon fergesen! (I am already forgetting!)

schon fergesen=Shaun Ferguson

You can claim to have the longest name on the ballot, but that is a pretty tight race.  What I do notice when looking at the sample ballot is that the longer names do "pop" more off the page.  If I knew nothing of the candidates and was just scanning down the list it is the longest names that catch my eye. This is particularly true of the Sheriff's race in which the three candidates form somewhat of a "sheriff sandwich" in which Newman, in the middle with the longest name, stands out from Beseler and Taylor.

I wonder if anyone has ever done a study of people picking names at random from a list.  I bet the longer names are picked more often.  I bet that also happens when people are undecided.

I cannot accuse you of lengthening your name on purpose because you did use your first two initials.  However, when I look at some of the other candidates I can't help but wonder if they are purposely lengthening their names in order to stand out.  Since when is Diane Hutchings known as Diane Elaine Hutchings.  That takes up 22 spaces.  You might have the longest name on the ballot, but you are just beating her by one space.  We also have Patricia "Pat" Freeman, Deborah "Debby" Terry, and several people who have added 3 spaces to their name by throwing in their middle initial.

If I ever decide to run for public office, i will have to change Felix Kulpah to something longer.

Felix "The Cat" Kulpah?  Why not? I kind of like Rick "The Enforcer" Beseler.

I remember reading a segment on this in one of my favorite books, "America," by Alistair Cook.

A young by comes to Ellis Island from Europe & goes through the process.  When an officer asks him his name, in his heavily accented voice, he said something to the officer that sounded like "Drobek."  The officer said, you need a good sounding American name, so on the official paper, he entered the name Robuck.  Years later, the young boy met another man whose name was Sears, & the rest is history.  It's a true story.  JATFUR

Actually I was basing that simply on my Last name.   It's hard to beat 12 letters!
