PLEASE VOTE NO ON ADMENDMENT TWO.Please Vote no on Amendment Two Amendment 2 will be on state ballots this fall. If passed, it would amend the Florida state constitution to ban gay marriages and civil unions. The change to the constitution also would affect publicly recognized domestic partnerships. The amendment, known as the Florida Marriage Protection Amendment, advocates the following:
This amendment protects marriage as the legal union of only one man and one woman as husband and wife and provides that no other legal union that is treated as marriage or the substantial equivalent thereof shall be valid or recognized.
Do we really want this amendment to pass? How many disabled and elderly live as I am forced to do? I have been with the same woman for ten years, are we married yes; in heart and soul. Do we have the Florida State documentation stating that we are married, NO.? Why, because we can’t afford to. Why can we not afford to? Because we live on a meager income, poverty level most would say. I, of course am medically not able to work, so I get SSDI. I’m not complaining I get more than most, I had some very good jobs in my life so my check is higher than many get. It pretty much works out to be just above minimum wage.
My wife has always pretty much had minimum waged jobs, she has a disability also, but she has chosen to work instead of staying on SSI , which she could have done. Truly I hate anyone paying my way, but sometimes that’s just the way it is. We are so much in love and would really like to be married legally, but that can’t happen. Why, because I can’t pay $1,500. Per month in medication, even with Medicare part D. With out the help of the state, I would have to pay Medicare deductible every year, Medicare share of cost every month, for part A, And B , and medical deductible, and co-pay from my insurance. Total all that up and my check is gone, well I would have like abut $45.00 left to go have a ball with, NOT. If we got married I would loose all the extra help I get for my medical expenses.
As it is now we are considered life partners, if this amendment two passes I won’t have a box to check when ask about my marital status; just kidding. Really it is bad enough just knowing if some thing were to happen I don’t have any legal rights as someone who is married. One day we hope we can afford to be, but for now it is just not possible. I fear if this amendment were to pass it would just make it that more difficult, on an already difficult situation.
Maybe we will be able to get married soon; my wife has been accepted into a course in Bradford county Vocational School with a full scholarship paid by the State of Florida’s Vocational Rehabilitation program. All expenses paid, one stipulation though, she can only work part time. At first I didn’t know how it would be possible, with the working only part time. My son’s step up and said they would cover the difference until she can graduate school. Blessings truly happen in life especially when you have children who care, I could not ask for better sons. I look forward to her finishing school and getting a real job. I am so proud of her she has worked so hard to overcome so many obstacles in her life, this woman has true Grit. I can’t wait until the day we can finally get legally married, but until then I don’t think the State of Florida should make it any harder on us than it already is.
PLEASE VOTE NO ON ADMRNDMENT TWO.

Solo maybe it is time to have an amendment placed on the ballot that requires all amendments presented to be written in layman’s terms, as much as possible. It is just not right that you pretty much have to be some type of scholar to have a good understanding as to what they want you to vote for. Me, I can pretty much decipher the terminology. I would much rather read it in layman’s terms though. Amendment five is a service tax in sheep’s clothing. This state has been trying for years ti pass a tax on services, without success. What tragedy that would be, even though they exempt many things. It would be just a matter of time before you would see those exemptions fade away. 5 is a bad amendment, amendment 5 is a tax increase disguised as a tax cut. I truly hope the voters really read and understand this bill. I don’t know what seven and nine are, guess I had better find out. I do have one question for my fellow blogers, Why do judges get a free pass during the election process. What I mean is you never see much about their records on the decisions they make, or don’t make. Therefore they just get reelected without much questioned. Just curious. Today is Good

I have long railed against judges in this country. I fault the public for not paying attention to these rascals and of course, anytime you want them to explain themselves, they claim they can not discuss a case. The gravest threat to this country are judges. People should get the philosophy ingrained within themselves to never re-elect a judge and probably very few, if, any other elected officials. I realize some readers will exclaim that I am an extremist but we are living in extreme times. All one need do is investigate the sloppiness of Judge Tim Collins in handing out a 500 dollar fine to the killer of three children (yes, I am still harping on Elmer Polite) and watch him refuse to answer any questions. This judge needs a conscience transplant. lilyslore, corruption is everywhere you look! Tim Collins was the Clay County State Attorney before becoming a judge. He served under Harrry Shornstein. Enough said? Evil does not win in the end! Submitted by Sunflower on Fri, 08/01/2008 - 6:40pm.
I vote NO on anything I don't understand. If they want it passed then stop playing games and say it like it is. It shouldn't be difficult to interpret what our lawmakers are trying to do. If you can't understand what they say, VOTE NO!! Support the CTLAC: www.CTLAC.com

Par tutti, IMHO, there are no easy solutions to this problem. I think there are two basic reasons bills are written in this manner. One is to satisfy all present & future legal requirements & loopholes. The other IS to confuse the general populace who have not come under the spell of the particular political party attempting to push their special views into law. But I would go just a tad farther, if I were king. I would go a bit farther than what Winn said. If a bill were to be presented for review, looking forward to passage by the voting process of the people, I would demand the following. One: The bill should be presented in as legal a format as is demanded by current laws. Two: Plain language should be used to explain to the voters just what it meant minus the legalese. Three: I would demand that the intention of the bill be openly & plainly stated in laymans terms. Four: I would demand that the reasons for the bill be openly & plainly stated. In other words, why was the bill introduced in the first place, by whom & backed by what % of the population. Perfect solution? Not by a long shot. But it might be a start. Any other ideas? This is the place, this is the time. Get those keys moving kids. JATFUR. Rich K

Judges cannot speak to parties outside of court. This is called an ex-parte communication and it is against the law. Judges can only speak to parties about a case when all parties are present. Thus eliminating any questions of improprieties. Tim Collins is a fair and respectable man. As I've said in another post, Mr. Polite was only given civil citations by the police. Judge Collins had his hands tied and maxed the defendant out on fines. By law that is all he could do. You cannot place someone in jail for a civil citation. A Judge cannot add criminal charges to a civil citation. Submitted by winn1955 on Sat, 08/02/2008 - 5:24am.
I’m tired and can’t sleep; I don’t know where to start. First solo you can be King I like your Ideas on, no easy solution, makes since to me. As far as Judges not being able to say anything well, I guess I will just start voting all incumbents out of office. Lilly is right Judges will be the death of this country. Too many legislate from the bench, when they have their own agenda. This was not meant to be. Cookie cutter one of my sons are gay and if he wer to find someone he would want to spend his life with he would have my blessing to get married. Wouldn’t love him any less, don’t understand it, but don’t condemn him for it. We would all be better off if government would do what they wer supposed to do and quit interfering in our lives. Today it is unfortunate that many think that government is supposed to supply them with their needs. If I seem like I am rambling, I could be. I have so much on my mind, and it just won’t shut off tonight. I will be writing a blog soon on the rage that is inside of me. Our government is so self serving it makes me sick in the pit of my stomach. (Clue ) the news this evening was saying just how bd the economy is getting as far a s lost jobs, I don’t remember the stats, but I will find them. We have a senator with the name of Mendez who has held the E-verify system hostage from being renewed for another five years, because he wants to attach a visa program for another 550,000 foreign nationals to come to this country too take the jobs we need. I could just scream. I know some don’t know what I am referring to, on the E-verify system. I can assure you it is important. New blog will be coming on it. This congress is the worst we have had in along time. Ok can’t see anymore I have got to try and sleep. Thanks for listening, later. Today was Good. Winn,
Thanks for bringing this up. I hope tomorrow is better for you than today.
In addition to Am. 2, voters need to get as much information as they can on Amendments 5, 7, & 9 also. Their taxes are on the line & there has been one heck of a lot of back room machinations to make these as difficult to understand as possible, thanks in large part to former Gov. Jeb Bush. Name sound familiar? This was covered a couple of times. The last time I saw it was in a blog by Marsha titled, Amendment 5 Misleading, 07.21.08. Happy reading. JATFUR.
