Press ConferenceThe Families of the victims in the Adam Taylor rape case ( see Folio Weekly for the story) has called a press conference and rally in support of the victims. It will be held on Monday, August 4th at 5:30. The location is the Fleming Island Library located on Town Center Blvd. All of the local press has been called and invited to attend. Anyone wishing to show their support for the victims and families are also asked to attend. This is no way a campaign rally for any candidate and the families would like to ask that it remains that way. For information, there was to be a sheriff's debate at 7:00 pm at this same location but candidate Mike Taylor has requested that in light of this victims rally that the Clay County Republicans Committee cancel this debate. The debate has now been cancelled. I wonder why? Submitted by read44 on Sat, 08/02/2008 - 6:25pm.
You may not be having the effect here that you wanted. You are starting to make me feel sorry for Mike Taylor. How can you possibly say this press conference is not politically motivated given its time and location? You just lost your credibility with me. Submitted by fedup on Sat, 08/02/2008 - 6:39pm.
The Sheriff's debate has been moved to Clay Hill. The press conference will remain in fleming island. If this was politically motivated it would move to the debate location. Submitted by Angela on Sat, 08/02/2008 - 6:42pm.
Read I would have to agree. I could in no way attend that rally to support anyone. This just reaffirms my thoughts from the beginning. To me this is just exploiting your children. How sad!

Maybe it was canceled because the families of the victims requested it not turn itno a political thing, and they did not want one event spilling over into another where things could turn bad. I think it was the prudent thing to do. TRUTHHURTS Please go to http://www.fairtax.org/site/PageServer and sign the petition for the Fair Tax Bill. Tell Congress to pass this Bill. It had something to do with this statement. For information, there was to be a sheriff's debate at 7:00 pm at this same location but candidate Mike Taylor has requested that in light of this victims rally that the Clay County Republicans Committee cancel this debate. The debate has now been cancelled. I wonder why? Submitted by fedup on Sat, 08/02/2008 - 7:01pm.
My suggestion is this. If you want to support your candidate then go to the debate. If you want to show the support for the victims and hear from their representative as to why they have told their story to the press then go to their rally to help them. Don't try to imply that minor girls are politically active or have anything to gain from this. the families have not been politically active, maybe this is one reason they are having such difficulty being heard. As far as losing credibility with read44, I could care less. I am trying to help these families. If you do not care for me so be it but read the info and don't blame them for your opinion of me.
Submitted by Angela on Sat, 08/02/2008 - 7:17pm.
I think it is stated in the article the family has never been involved until now. They will do whatever they can to see him not get elected. In a lawsuit that may be a statement that comes back to haunt them. If you truly wanted to help the girls you would do what I said in the other blog. Its clear the constant placing of the story in the blogs is there for a sole purpose. Personally I don't thinks its to help the girls. But to hurt Mike Taylor who has not committed any crime. Hey but if you want to exploit your children go ahead. Just as I said about exposing corruption by using corruption. That makes you them. Submitted by read44 on Sat, 08/02/2008 - 7:27pm.
What I said had nothing to do with the girls. I would be surprised if the girls set this press conference. I would be surprised to find out that the girls ask for this press conference. Will the girls be speaking? Will the girls be there? You are right, my opinion doesn’t matter one bit but when you place something here on myclaysun you must expect response. I didn’t say that I don’t care for you. I did not imply that the girls are politically motivated. Why was this location and this time selected for the press conference? I voted for Rick Beseler the last time. I was considering Mike Taylor this time, for one reason, it appears that that is what the majority of the officers want. I don’t know much about the other candidate but will find out. I don’t have to make a definite decision until the day of the scheduled election. Submitted by clayvoter on Sat, 08/02/2008 - 7:35pm.
I got an email yesterday generated from the Besler campaign that said the forum at Fleming Island was canceled. I did not get any inforamtion that the Taylor campaign was the one to cancel. Maybe Mr. Platt can answer that one, he was the President of the Fleming Island Club and remains quite active. I am sure he knows the reason for the cancellation. The forum at Fleming Island was scheduled months ago as was the Clay Hill forum, the forum was not moved. Clay Hill has always had political forums, they are very interested in hearing from the candidates and always have a big crowd. Baxley probably is your subject matter expert there. A couple of weeks ago, the Fleming Island Republicans announced that they would be moving up the time from 7 to 7:30 so the Sheriff's candidates would be able to get to the Clay Hill forum too. The Clay Hill forum is for all county wide candidates.

Fedup, Would you mind telling me, are you a friend of one of these families, do you have inside information or are you just someone repeating what you were told? Angela I've always been impressed with your advocacy for victims of all sorts, and how you give of your time to bring us links, public records etc. It's also been quite clear for sometime that you do not want Rick Beseler re-elected. To be totally candid your committment towards that end is what has made me think twice even though I've never heard a bad word about the man ever till the Campaign started. I have that much respect for what you say and how you feel. I am however a little concerned that your dislike for him seems to be dominating your thought process more then the fact that there actually appear to be more then a couple victims who have endured all sorts of things for a long time. It's just my personal perception but you almost seem willing to see these girls and these families sacrificed and Mike Taylor get elected not for how much you support him, or believe the boy to be innocent but because your contempt for Rick Beseler runs that deep. I'm not wanting to be critical I've just seen things from you over this that I would never have expected and I'm just frankly surprised. Am I wrong? I applaud the timing of it. It seems to me Mike Taylor has more then his share of free speech and face time. I'm sure they don't want to see him elected, unless you want to believe that this large group of people are all lying can you blame them? In their shoes I would consider it a civic duty to get out there and go door to door campaigning against him. Considering these people have been waiting as long as they have to get anyone to pay attention to them even if they did arrange it all on purpose which I don't believe I say good for them! Fleming Island Library conference area where I was for the debate on the 5+2 isn't very large, I'm sure the Candidates will get to meet alot more people in Clay Hill. For all any of us know, they(the family) were able to get the spot because the debate had been cancelled in Fleming Island and there is someone out there who just wants to spin it so it looks like they're persecuting poor Mike. The people in the Taylor family I feel bad for is the Mother/Wife and their other children. I intend to be there to show my support for these families and these girls. I just don't believe this case got what it deserved by the authorities and if this is the next step in that happening I think that is just great. For those who believe Adam Taylor is quite possibly innocent, it seems to me if they'd chose to use the legal system as it was intended rather then resisting it he could have been exonerated and this wouldn't be happening.

The question posed from the blog topic. "The debate has now been cancelled. I wonder why?" I Repeat.... Because it was the prudent thing to do. Why risk one event spilling into another where things could turn bad.

you have stated that I am no longer credible to you. Why is that? All I did was post what information was relayed to me. I can tell you that there were several locations considered but the location was not decided upon by the families. The reason I was given was for a central location for the families. If it was politically motivated I believe you would have seen the press conference moved. Another thing is obviously the families have been dealing with this for some time. Why have they not been at previous forums attacking Mr. Taylor? They are only seeking justice.

Please don't be offended by that remark and please understand that if you had come here to tell us about the press conference and it were not in the same location and on the same date as a debate or forum which included Mike Taylor, the thought would not have come to mind. I have and will always advocate for victims rights. I detest corruption in law enforcement and have seen it on many levels. It is a cancer to the system and will kill the very system that protects us all. I think the article if true shows corruption within law enforcement and that is of a major concern to me. It should be to all the citizens. Just like these girls the young man has rights too. I believe this information that has been released is in violation of the laws of the State of Florida. Evidently someone at these agencies shares that same feeling. Because they are not releasing any additional information. Unlike libel, truth is not a defense for invasion of privacy. Is a personal right. I will not ever vote for Beseler and it is due to information that I have placed on the blogs and other information that I am aware exist that I have not placed on the blogs. I have never stated that I would vote for Taylor of Newman. But I have no problem firmly stating I will never vote for Beseler. I have never endorsed either of the other candidates on the blogs. If you want to work on corruption in law enforcement and color of law, which is what I see as the problem here. I have given them the information and the agency that handles those type things. It's up to family to decide to do something positive for the girls. If this young man has passed a lie detector's test. I am not certain the Governor will be the answer to the questions concerning the events that happened. Submitted by Faith on Sun, 08/03/2008 - 12:51am.
You should feel sorry for the victims! Mike Taylor is a grown man and should have thought about his actions in trying to cover the problem in the first place. My vote has changed and most all of the people that I know vote to keep Beseler!!

Marsha; Thanks for the post. Pretty much my sentiments exactly. I guess that is why they call it the criminal justice system. The criminal gets justice and the victims get bashed. Angela; I think you are way off center on this one. Take off your crap colored glasses and look at what you are saying. I find it hard to believe that you are advocating so strongly against these girls. And you can protest that you are not, but the reality is that you are. I think your hatred has clouded your vision and your judgment. The fact that they are not releasing any more information doesn't clearly say that they have done anything illegal. It only means that they have been threatened by a lawsuit and have decided that rather than make an actual determination of the legality of their actions they went with cowering before some other bully and are doing exactly what he wanted them to do. My feeling is that if releasing those records was truly so heinous a crime then the lawsuit would already have been filed. As I have heard of no such suit I'd say it was more bluster than substance. If they were to decide to really do their job then they would say let's go see the judge and hear what she/he has to say. And I have yet to hear anyone say an unkind word about the information that was in the story in the TU about the abuse incident between Mike and Adam. Is that because it was softball TU reporting rather than hardball Folio? Or is it that Mike might have wanted this one out there in the hopes of defusing the one in the Folio? He didn't seem to have a problem with that little incident being put into the public light. Nor apparently do you for that matter. The reactions from people like you are exactly why abuse victims are afraid to come forward. One of you can wipe out any positive support from 50 like me. And Angela, that is truly unfortunate. You play right into the hands of the abuser and they go on their merry way doing what they wish to anyone the wish while the crap storm rages behind them. Read44; How can you possibly say this press conference is not politically motivated The comment did not say it was not politically motivated what it said was: This is no way a campaign rally for any candidate They don't want some candidate out there trying to make this a sound bight for their campaign. Big difference. I would love to be there to support these families but I will not attend simply because I am running for an office and would not want my attendance to detract from this rally or have my motivations for attending brought into question. Mike if you want to be a commissioner I would suggest you review the Fl State Statutes under the Judicial Branch it encompasses Chapters 25-44. I would suggest you review what agencies that covers. Now if as the article alleges abuse of power and includes allegations against several agencies giving preferential treatment to the Taylor family. Because as we know Mr. Taylor could not have worked alone if this is what is being alleged. Then go to the agency that has the power to investigate these agencies. No person has been denied their day in court. Some have their day in criminal court. Some have their day in civil court. Submitted by Angela on Sun, 08/03/2008 - 9:28am.
Mike, About public records and your statement: The fact that they are not releasing any more information doesn't clearly say that they have done anything illegal. It only means that they have been threatened by a lawsuit and have decided that rather than make an actual determination of the legality of their actions they went with cowering before some other bully and are doing exactly what he wanted them to do. Let’s see what the Attorney General says about that statement:
Q. What is a public record? Q. Does an agency have to explain why it denies access to public records? Q. Can an agency refuse to allow public records to be inspected or copied if requested to do so by the maker or sender of the documents? And to clear up a statement made by someone else stating they have to be notified if the records are requested and who is requesting those records. Let’s examine that statement.
Q. Can I request public documents over the telephone and do I have to tell why I want them?

The Candidates Forum at Clay Hill Elementary remains unchanged. Monday, Aug. 4, 7:00 pm. It is presentation style only - no debates. We have a limited time and a lot of candidates (22). As with all Clay Hill Community Association forums, there will be a 20 minute break midway so candidates and citizens can socialize, and discuss the issues personally. Saying it is in no way a campaign rally for any candidate is a disclaimer and also implies that it is not a campaign rally against any candidate. The fact that the press conference was scheduled to be held at the same location and on the same day as a forum or debate would make it look as though they were there to hurt one candidate in particular. Why not the day before or the day after the scheduled forum? Why that location on that day? My comments show no disrespect for the girls, I simply stated that the choice of location and date gave the impression it was being held there to harm the Taylor campaign or in the very least shake his confidence. You can hardly hurt one candidate without helping another. I fully expect the law and law enforcement agencies to do their job, regardless of who the victim or the perpetrator is. I expect nothing less than equal treatment. A portion of the Folio article reads: Both pairs of parents say they will fight to see Adam Taylor punished. But as the race for Clay County Sheriff heats up, they’ve found their motives increasingly dismissed as political. Mike Taylor’s supporters suggest that Beseler supporters started the “rumors” about Adam Taylor in order to discredit his dad. The families of the girls insist they have no link to Sheriff Beseler, but they admit that their anger and frustration has given them an interest in seeing Mike Taylor defeated.
