The Orange Park Town Council has tentatively approved a tax rate of $6 for every $1,000 of assessed value. For years, the rate has been $5.
Town Manager John Bowles proposed a $5.80 tax rate to fund his proposed $7.7 million budget for 2008-09. An increased rate to make up for funds lost from the state, an interlocal agreement with Clay County, a new homestead exemption
However council members decided to bump it up a little for the sake of wiggle room.
The first public hearing on the tax rate and proposed budget will be 7:30 p.m. Sept. 16. A second public hearing and final vote is slated for 5 p.m. Sept. 29 at Orange Park Town Hall.
