MCS Candidate Q & A
Meet the candidates article from today's MCS. Here's the question: Because of the struggling economy, many private sector employees are getting zero or minimal salary increases. Should county employee unions agree to share fiscal pain in the same manner? Here's the answer: The institute of county government cannot dictate to employee unions the decisions that they make regarding their benefit package. The county can negotiate the contract with the unions, which may affect the unions' final decision of the benefit package for its members. For some reason I thought the County was the one that wrote paychecks. I did not realize that their paycheck came from the union. Is there a benefit that the union pays for that I did not know about? Are we paying for something that the employee is not getting? Can someone please 'splain this comment to me in a manner that doesn't make it sound like someone is trying real hard not answer the question so that they don't offend their union endorsers? Heemer, How do you find this stuff? I read the newspaper. You should try it sometime. It's amazing what you can learn. Obviously my sarcasm went over your head. This is an actual question to, and an answer from a candidate. For this particular article you might try the paper version of today's MCS. Do you see anything in his statement that actually resembles an answer to the question? Does he think they should share in the fiscal pain or doesn't he? But I certainly appreciate your lesson on unions. My knowledge base would have been greatly lacking without that exceptionally erudite explanation. Mike Heemer

I'm well aware where your cut and paste came from. You would never had come up with that yourself. Keep arguing and playing on the blogs, you will be lucky to get 1000 votes. By the way on a more serious note how was that pound cake the other night?

You see Jackal, we have a problem with communication here. I already stated that it came from the paper version of MCS. It would be awful hard to do a C & P from there. I actually had to type it out. You still didn't answer the question! As to the other night, you would have to be a little more specific. I haven't been out of the house for quite a few nights and it's probably been over 5 years since I've had pound cake. In case you missed something in the past let me explain to you about my running for office. I can do the job of Chair better than my opponent. Yep, I'm egotistical about that. I've got more leadership experience than he does, I've got better leadership skills than he does and I have a desire to serve in that position for the point of serving only. I have no political aspirations for anything beyond that job. I don't think we need an elected Chair and I sure as heck don't think if the voters decide to keep it that it needs to be made into something more than a ceremonial position and another vote of a Commissioner. I don't think the voters want that either. I think they make way too much money for the job they do and would be happy if the salary was cut to $37K. I'd be even happier if I was elected and the voters decided to do away with the position and I never had to take the job. But I'll settle for my opponent being elected if the job is done away with and he never takes the seat either. I think someone needs to start taking a real hard look at how some of the developers and the CDDs they fall under operate. In my opinion there is way too much collusion going on in one or more of them. Once the CDD is established they seem to take on a life of their own without much oversight. It seems that once they become their own mini government they are pretty much left to their own devices and some fail to uphold the rules and statutes that they are supposed to abide by. I think that on occasion they get the cart in front of the horse and allow the developer to dictate to them how things are going to be. If I'm elected the only person I will owe anything to in this county is the voter. The only money in my campaign account came from my pocket. I don't want money from a PAC or anyone outside of Clay County and there are some in Clay County that I would send the money back to with a no thanks note if they tried to donate to me. As to the number of votes I may or may not get, The absolute worst thing that could happen to me is if when my wife and I go to vote I find that the only vote I got was mine. Whether I get 1 vote, 30,000 votes or 50% + 1 the voters will have made the choice. And that is what this is all about. No one should walk into or remain in a position unopposed. And every one of these races should have the final decision made in November not August. As this could be construed as a political announcement here is the disclaimer: This is a paid political announcement approved by Mike Heemer. Mike Heemer

Then you will lose, however just worry about Heemer and leave the other canidates not in your chair position alone. Besides, I have other things that interest me more.

Jackal; Again with the lack of understanding and communication. I may be running for the Chair but I am still a voter in this County. I happen to live in district 1 so this particular race interests me personally. You still didn't answer the question. I can understand your reluctance to do so. You seem to be pretty flighty and have yet to make much sense in any blog you've been in. Mike Heemer

Since you labeled that muti-paragraphed reply as an approved paid for political announcement, you will need to take some money from your political account to pay for today's blog session. ATT, Yahoo, which ever carrier you use. You will also need to report it in your financial statement to the Supervisor of Elections. I'm not being funny check on it! Now there is a way around it you could just go back and edit your reply. Submitted by SoloVoce on Sat, 08/09/2008 - 5:11pm.
Mike, It would seem that we have yet another belligerent blogger with the possibiity of poor comprehension. Perhaps yet another identity switch? Time will tell, I guess. I had a sneaking suspision that the civility might not last long. At this rate, I have to wonder how long it will take for intellect & civility to reach benthic depths. I do admire your tenacity. How you put up with such antics is beyond me. You have a ton more patience than I. Bono fortuno my follow blogeratti. JATFUR. Rich K

Mike, Hate to say it but I think I was right on target with this one. Well, at least he/she can spell. I guess that's something. Rich K

And to think he'll be one of my constituents when I get elected. For some reason I don't think it will be with his help. What do you think? It may not always be fun and informative but it is almost always an interesting study in human nature. I find it interesting that those who scream the loudest for people to reveal who they are rarely seem to do so themselves. Interesting how that works. I say rarely for there are one or two that want people to reveal who they are that do blog under their real name. For me, I don't have a problem with those that don't and would never ask them to do so. I find that a bit rude. There are any number of reasons why a person would not reveal their true identity and I respect that. Mike Heemer

A jackal (from Turkish çakal, via Persian shaghal ultimately from Sanskrit sṛgālaḥ [1][2]) is a member of any of three (sometimes four) small to medium-sized species of the family Canidae, found in Africa, Asia and Southeastern Europe.[3] Jackals fill a similar ecological niche to the coyote in North America, that of predators of small to medium-sized animals, scavengers, and omnivores. Their long legs and curved canine teeth are adapted for hunting small mammals, birds and reptiles. Big feet and fused leg bones give them a long-distance runner's physique, capable of maintaining speeds of 16km/h (10mph) (just over 6 min/mile) for extended periods of time. They are nocturnal, most active at dawn and dusk. In jackal society the social unit is that of a monogamous pair which defends its territory from other pairs. These territories are defended by vigorously chasing intruding rivals and marking landmarks around the territory with urine and feces. The territory may be large enough to hold some young adults who stay with their parents until they establish their own territory. Jackals may occasionally assemble in small packs, for example to scavenge a carcass, but normally hunt alone or as a pair. I was wondering exactly where that stink was coming from. Smells like...sniff, sniff...RT1. Yes, we are under attack by the crazy lady again. Leave it to Lily to ignore the advise I offered to others. Lily, dear heart, you're begining to sound a bit like Mike. You've got to learn to let it out, don't sugar coat your thoughts, your emotions. It's bad for the bodily constitution. You'll get your innards in a twist, your mind in a shamble & you'll be useless to any one, especially us. C'mon. Get with it lady. Tell us what you really think. I honestly don't know if the jackal is yet another tired, tawdry, twisted reincarnation of another blogger & really don't care. If this is their manner of communication, so be it. I will ignore it as I do others. I consider myself to be fortunate in that I am able to communicate with a number of other members of the blogeratti who are, indeed , civil, intelligent & have more than a minimal amount of that quality to communicate in a civil, intellectual manner. Other than that, I would condemn them no farther. I would give them the worst kind of judgement possible. I would leave them to themselves. It seems so just, so fitting. JATFUR. Lily, In one respect, jackal is correct. It can also be spelled bon fortuno. Some are formal, some informal. I like having choices. RK

Now just who in the past, using multiple identities, was also that obsessed and rude? I'll allow you to scratch your thinking domes. It won't be hard to find the culprit. Remember when all of those Americans who were entertained by the first O.J. trial went into withdrawal when it ended? Heaven forbid, so many of us are in for the same fate. Oh, on second thought, we will have those who choose to live the next four years of their lives in preparation for the next election, just as they have for the last four years. What a miserable existence. As I noted in my very first blog, I know about that because I did it a couple of decades ago. Of course, if we are to believe some of the Taylor supporters, they will spend some of their time suing the Beseler supporters, who will probably in turn sue some of the Taylor supporters. That should keep people busy for awhile, and should certainly keep some lawyers busy. Oh, on third thought, I don't think that many lawyers are going to take on truth and the first amendment, unless they themselves are independently wealthy and without any other cases. Such claims won't make it to the supreme court for many, many years to come. On fourth thought, they probably won't make it past the first court. It's time we did something totally different. Hey, is it great to be American, or what? People are talking about ...Here are the recent blog postings with the most comments. |

Heemer, How do you find this stuff? Anyway, the question was answered just in a way you did not comprehend. It has nothing to do with endorsements from unions. A union has representatives they decide on to represent them in everything from salaries to sick leave. The union is created, because the members: teachers, firemen, police officers, county road workers, ect. do not feel their leaders represent them properly and fairly. Remember, most leaders in this area are appointed, elected at high salaries and want to stay appointed, elected. Therefore, they will do exactely what looks good to who put them there, but may not be to the employee or even fair.
The paychecks do not come from a union at least not in this county. Let me give you an example why a union exist; Lets say the firemen are given old fire gear, low pay and no incentive for their training and education. Now, each year they watch as the Fire Director request no budget increase to address these problems, but he or she continue to receive pay increases and pats on the back for operating on a "shoe string" budget. The firemen then do one of three things: Leave, attempt to resolve it with union reps. or fight fires with old stuff that may fail at any moment with a low morale, because they have to work extra jobs to make ends meet. Perhaps you should question these very elected officials or appointed folks as to why the union was formed in the first place or further why the two sides can not come to a fair agreement. Unions are a result of failed LEADERSHIP. Good Luck!
