A Tale of Two Homes

House #1  A 20 room mansion (not including 8 bathrooms) heated by natural gas. Add on a pool (and a pool house) and a separate guest house, all heated by gas. In one month this residence consumes more energy than the average American household does in a year. The average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over $2400. In natural gas alone, this property consumes more than 12 times the national average for an American home. This house is not situated in the Northern or Midwestern 'Snow Belt' area.  It is in the South.

House # 2
Designed by an architecture professor at a leading national university. This house incorporates every 'green' feature current home construction can provide.. The house is 4,000 square feet (4 bedrooms) and is nestled on a high prairie in the American southwest. A central closet in the house holds geothermal heat-pumps drawing ground water through pipes sunk 300 feet into the ground.

The water (usually 67 degrees F.) heats the house in the winter and cools it in the summer. The system uses no fossil fuels such as oil or natural gas and it consumes one-quarter of the electricity required for a conventional heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the roof is collected and funneled into a 25,000 gallon underground cistern. Waste water from showers, sinks and toilets goes into underground purifying tanks and then into the cistern. The collected water then irrigates the land surrounding the house. Surrounding flowers and shrubs native to the area enable the property to blend into the surrounding rural landscape.

... Now the 'good' part ...
House #1 is outside of  Nashville ,  TN ; it is the 'humble' abode of the infamous 'environmentalist', Al Gore .

HOUSE # 2 is on a ranch near Crawford, TX; it is the residence of the President of the United States, George W. Bush.

An 'inconvenient truth'??

Sounds to me like a real "inconvenient truth".

Some questions beg to be asked.

Is there any documentation of Mr. Gore answering the question to explain this? How old is it?  How much would it cost to convert?  Is converting/refitting cost effective in view of evergy saving?

Is there any documentation as to when Mr. Bush had this house built.  What was the cost?  What is the energy saving & how long will it take to reach energy saving?  How many days a year does he occupy this house in order to make it profitable?  Just curious.

This story has been floating around the Internet for about a year now. I would not be surprised if it were true but I also have received something similar, pictures of an exquisite and ostentatious home that someone claims to be owned by Tiger Woods. Turns out, it isn't, so I would not leap into this one. I dislike Al Gore a lot. I think he's essentially a phony. He also strikes me  as being extremely arrogant and does not tolerate being on the same plane as the rest of us poor souls. However, I need a little more proof than the word of an anonymous Internet Poster.

Al Gore does not respond to questions about this one house, or his other two homes. When the story came out over a year ago he had some upgrades put on, and now his energy bill is even higher, but so is mine, so that may or may not mean much.
Does it matter for him or Bush what the cost or payback time is? They both have the money, and Al is the one telling us abut our carbon foot print. As the saying goes if you can’t walk the walk than shut the …. Up.
