Voters, Like Juries, Usually Get It RightVoters, like juries, usually get it right. Historically, they see through the smoke screens and make their decisions based on their common sense. And, if there is one thing that tends to tick them off, it is being lied to. Mike Taylor indicated that his wife can't even shop in Clay County because our crime is so out of control, and that of all places, she shops in Jacksonville. The old timers I know, and the rest of the folks who shop routinely in Clay County, are rolling their eyes, and suggesting that Mike and his wife move to Jacksonville where they will feel safer. I agree on the publicised races but history in Clay shows that many races are won by candidates who just better funded. The sheriff is always the big race locally but probably effects a lot fewer peoples lives than a school board member or commissioner. More exit polls reguarding why people voted like they did might be a usefull tool for everybody. I would bet that a large number of voters don't know a thing about half the races they vote in. I have dozens of people each election ask me how they should vote. There is no doubt the system needs some improving but I sure don't know the answer.
