What the National Weather Service intially labeled a "large and extremely dangerous" tornado turned into a fairly harmless twister as it moved north from Green Cove into Duval County this evening.
Karen and Michael Dziekan said they spotted the tornado above their Fleming Island home about 6 p.m. as it swirled near the St. Johns River.
"From what I saw it scared me real bad," said Michael Dziekan, 31. "I saw it spinning. I could see it come all the way down."
Dziekan said he ran back inside his home, grabbed his wife and three children and ran into their pantry. We he emerged, Dziekan found a water pump house on his property damaged, but no other signs of trouble. No other damage reports were received.
