A Fall GardenI've always wanted to have a successful fall garden. I'd settle for a successful garden anytime, but I know little about gardening. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to prep sandy soil and when to plant vegetables? Seeds vs plants, etc. Any help would be appreciated. Submitted by Snookie on Thu, 09/11/2008 - 10:19pm.
I appreciate you taking the time to give me a few pointers. I like almost all of the veggies you talked about. The kale makes a great potato soup like at Olive Garden. I copied their recipe from copykat.com. I'll get a hold of Mr. Zerba as soon as I have the chance.. Again, Thanks.

Now is the time. Ray Zerba at Ag center on hwy. 16 in G.C.S. is a great resource. He puts a gardening calendar in the T.U. acouple times a year worth saving. I start my own transplants just becaouse plants have gotten so expensive. You can sow lettuce mustaed spinach, kale and turnips in the ground and thin. collards broccoli cauliflower, and cabbage are better transplanted. You have time to grow tomatoes if you buy plants. I am growing potatoes but I saved the seed potatoes from spring and haven't found any this time of year. I can't think of very many things you can't grow now, however if we have an unusually early frost you may have to cover some things. This is the time to really focus on salad stuff. good luck and keep us posted.
