Differences in Media Coverage

Within 2 weeks, two of Clay County's finest died.  Sgt Craven Horne, Orange Park Police Department and Clay County resident, died after battling a brain tumor.  An obituary and a short little blurb appears in the MyCalySun print edition.  Then,Jacksonville Sheriff's officer Christopher Kane, Clay County resident, is killed in an automobile accident.  His death garners the cover and several pages inside the MyClaySun print edition.  Both of these men deserved to be honored and have their death covered in the local media.

Why did MyClaySun provide such different coverage for virtually the same story?

God Speed Craven Horne and Christopher Kane.

Two reasons that come to mind are:

1. Officer Kane died “in the line of duty" and Sergeant Horne died of natural causes (presumably)

2. The television station and the print media are mostly Jacksonville based and what I believe is they focus primarily on the Jacksonville events because that is their market. Frankly, the surrounding counties get "token coverage" or if the media covers a story in the surrounding counties, the stories are “sensational”.Both men are deserving honors regardless of media coverage and for you to post a blog about the matter; those men are receiving those honors.

I'm sure they were happy serving the community and thanks be to God for their service.

Excessive speed and no seat belt after his work hours in a construction zone and on his way home. Is that considered in the line of duty?

I also read where Officer Kane was driving down 9A the wrong way when this accident happened.

I thought that the My Clay Sun was about Clay County.  Sgt Horne lived and worked in Clay County.  Officer Kane worked in Jacksonville; lived in Clay County.  I don't quite think it's fair there was not more recogition by My Clay Sun regarding Sgt Horne just because Sgt Horne was not in a police vehicle at the time of his death.

I am certainly not trying to make less of Officer Kane's death.  Please do not take it that way.

You will find fault with anything. You are so pathetic that it makes me want to puke!

Yes he was on duty! He was on his way home and still subject to call. So with that, he was on duty. It’s that simple but for your pea brain, maybe not. I hope some of the dogs that run at large in your neighborhood, come into your yard and leave a big pile on your lawn.  I write this because you are such an ungrateful person. For you to minimize the manner in which a noble public servant gave his life for us is shameful. You'll never know why he was driving the manner in which he did that early morning.

And please don’t patronize me by responding and claiming your posting was a question, because it was not. No wonder so many bloggers whoop up on you. You ask for it time and time again. Have you noticed they really never respond to you? I do, once and a while because I like opening a can up on you.

Why don’t you just move out of the county state or even the country? You’ll probably be much better off. I hear Siberia has plenty of land available. Last I checked they have social medicine for that problem you’re having.

Always wear your seatbelt, don't speed, and obey all the laws.
