Missing Post

My Fellow Bloggers,

I'm taking this opportunity to explain to you what I just did.  You'll probably hear more from JB on this.

I slept in a bit today so I didn't get to scan the blogs until @ 0645 this morning.  I decided to read One Mann's post on "BCC & Private Roads," since I know little about the subject.  Finder posted the first reply, One Mann replied to that & the third post was titled, "Hot Blondie Ally Gets."  The user name was Bashibozuk.  I couldn't figure it out from the title, but upon reading, it became apparent, & rather quickly, that it had nothing to do with the BCC or roads, at least not the ones in the original subject.

The best description I can give to you is that it dealt with what I would consider titles & descriptions for XXX rated movies or written porn.  It came complete with all of the naughty words an ex bosun mate like me knows & problably some of you, but refrain from using in polite societal settings.  I felt it necessary to hit the abuse button.  It was posted at 0137 this morning so I can't reasonably expect JB or any one else to be up at that hour checking it out.  I don't know if any people of a young & tender age participate in this forum, but I'm sure if their parents do, they would have done the same thing.

I'm not a prude & not the biggest fan of general, non personal censorship.  This is the first time I've ever used the abuse button.  You'll just have to trust me that if I ever thought that I would use it, it wouldn't be for something like this.  As I said, I'm sure we'll hear from JB & he'll give a more detailed explanation but I thought you all deserved a "Heads Up."  Hope you understand.

RichK;

I too was up and about early and saw that one. I hit the abuse button also. In addition, I sent JB an email letting him know about that post and another one. The other one titled Air Condition is also full of links although not the sort that were in the other one. These are only ads for air filters.

Mike,

I think we made a good call.  Aside from ruffling any delicate & sahnsahtave sensibilities, there may have been some legal issues because of the languge in the post.  I missed the one @ air conditioners.  Somehow, I don't think it was as much fun or anywhere near as descriptive.LaughingEmbarassed

I hate coming off like a goody two shoes or a church lady, but I'm pretty sure JB or someone else would have yanked the post off, post haste.  Problem is, I can't think of a way for MCS to prevent this kind of thing.  The blogger came in under the wire at O dark thirty in what amounts to stealth mode.  Get enough of these yahoos doing this & it puts the MCS forum in jeopardy.  We do our best to police ourselves & at times push the envelope.  We've been fortunate at times.  I hope JB will give us an explanation.  I've been speculating, at best.  Hope we don't see any more of this for our own sake.  Have a great one.  JATFUR.

Why start a new blog about this awful post?  I saw the post early this morning and signed on just to hit the Report Abuse button.  TruthHurts was online and she probably hit it as well without fanfare.  If you had not contributed further entries on the subject,  none of the later readers would have had to know about it.

Think about it.

The questionable entries are probably automatically deleted when there are enough hits of Report Abuse.  MCS should be able to filter by the word use, like you do in email with spam filters.

If anyone ever doubted you were a man, they shouldn't now.

Read,

Why your knickers are in a knot is beyond me.  As is your logic & attitude.

What I did was to remove any doubt & speculation in case others saw that blog.  To that end, I gave an explanation to the other bloggers as I assume JB will.  I thought the bloggers had a right to know what was going on.  Apparently, you don't.

TH & any number of people could have been on.  They probably could have hit the abuse button.  I took the "probably,"  out of the equation.  Maybe they are automatically deleted, maybe not.  It's not up to you, me or any other blogger to make that decision.  The decision starts with JB.

If you have any problems with my actions, report me to JB instead of questioning my manhood.  Considering your attitude & thinking, I highly doubt if you are in any way authorised to judge it.  You certainly don't seem to be qualified.

I wasn't questioning your manhood in any way.  I just thought you confirmed your gender.

Your blog and your entry on the Private Road blog just told me for sure you were a man.  Just hit Report Abuse when necessary and move on, please.

Jonathan doesn't give an explanation every time an entry is removed, you have been here long enough to know that.  It's just gone.

Private RoadsSubmitted by RichK on Thu, 07/02/2009 - 6:04am.

The issue of private roads is new to me.  I've never had to deal with them.  Growing up & living in chicago & othe places, I never had to come acroos any problems concerned with them.  Consequently, I have no stake at all in the issue.

But it would seem that a private road is exactly that.  Private.  It is up to the owner to bear the cost of at least minimal upkeep.  I can also understand any law that, because of necessity, outlines some guidlines regarding minimal upkeep.  So thanks for shedding some light on the subject for people like me who wonder what the big tsimmes is.

As to the posting titled, "Hot blondie ally gets," thanks for giving me a morning jolt better than any coffee I've ever had.  I don't think it will last long with the "report abuse," button, but it was a change of pace, nonetheless.  At the very least, it was a welcome change of pace to Obama bashing & the CCAC circus.  But alas, I think that the "report abuse," button should be hit on this one & if I don't do it, someone else surely will.  And that's the way it T I Is, tis.  JATFUR.

Being appreciativee of good stereotypical gender humor, I enjoyed the initial reference.  Step back a second, Rich, and don't take it in the personal attack sense.  It's funny.

Actually, I didn't sign on early and missed the referenced pulled comment.  Can I still find those links?  Or does that definitely identify me as a man, too?

All-

Thanks for letting me know about this post. You used the "Report Abuse" perfectly. Mike - thanks for the email, and Rich - thanks for the blog post.

As for Ally, that post is gone forever and the user who posted it (who's probably a spammer anyway) has been banned.

Thanks again,

Read,

Very obviously, I misread your remarks & intentions.  That is definitely my bad & I do apologise.  I will spend the rest of the afternoon taking a mental, "Time Out," in the corner & hope not to do it again.

I still do stand by my reasoning for my post.  Yes, I agree that JB comes on to explain something out of the ordinary for us.  Yes, I agree that there might be times when he doesn't give us an explanation.  But if that happens, we're in the dark.  If that were the case, I felt that there might have people who came across the entry & if it were pulled, might be puzzled.  Once again, I removed all doubt.  I still maintain that our fellow bloggers deserve an explanation if there is one to be found.  And this is not a mark against JB.

Once again, my apologies.  I hope you & everyone else has a safe & great July 4th weekend.  JATFUR.

I still don't get it.  The people that saw the offending post know how bad it was and therefore understood completely why it was pulled.

Those that didn't see it were not worried about it at all or needed any explanation of why it was removed.

It was entertaining though to see Jonathan chime in to your defense.

I in fact saw this trash and indeed hit the abuse button as well. I found no need to explain myself.

My explanation was not solely to explain my actions.  Looking back to past experience, there have been times, thankfully, very few, where a post has shown up & then disappeared.  At some of those times, bloggers asked what happened.  Regardless of whether it was read or not, it was, indeed, noticed, as was its absence.  All I did was to remove any doubt, give my reasons & wait for an explanation from JB.

I'm glad that I wasn't the only one to think that the post stepped beyond the line of what most of us consider appropriate. Once again, I have no idea as to the legal aspects.  That's up to the powers that be.

As of yesterday, maybe last night, Grizelda's blog is gone.  It appears then, unless someone wrote something even worse that was deleted before I saw it, that the Terms of Service apply here on this site and it doesn't matter what might be on the rest of the World Wide Web.

Read,

I have to assume the same thing even though no explanation was given.  In any event, I think Grizelda's post was yet another prime example & confirmation of Mark Twains words, "It is better to keep your mouth shut & have people think you're an idiot than open it & remove all doubt."  That my not be exact, but it's darn close.  Have a safe & great one all.  JATFUR.

but maybe grizilda simply deleted the post on her own..Maybe JB can give us some insight....( I just deleted one of my posts and the entire thread was deleted without any real "sign" that I deleted it)

drop the "hyphen" already..we are Americans...PERIOD!

Joe,

At this point, your speculation is just as good as any of ours.  Until we get some info from JB, we will just have to speculate.  Have a great & safe 4th.  JATFUR.

You are right joe, she could have done it herself, after thinking about it.

RichK, that is a quote I have always liked.  I looked it up online and there are several wordings, including a very similar version from Abraham Lincoln.

I first saw it in a cross-stitch pattern-Better to remain silent and thought a fool than speak up and remove all doubt.

Happy 4th of July.
