Who am I?
As for most people, there are a lot of different answers to that question. For the purposes of My Clay Sun, I am a sports writer and photographer. And while that's certainly not nothing, it's not everything, either.
A literature professor once told me his theory that at any given time we embody a thousand different "selves." I thought this observation quite astute, since it helped explain a lot of the confusion that goes on in here.
Most people tend to define themselves by their past and present, and for retired Supreme Court justices and ex-professional football players, that's a pretty good deal -- though it's also kind of sad to know that what defines you the most is in the past.
Fortunately for me, I have no such great claims to the past. Therefore, I will define myself as I think a lot of people would like to define themselves: by their dreams of the future.
I used to want to write the great American novel. Now, I think I'd be happy just to read one, and then write a novel that would help pay a few bills.
I'd like to explore human consciousness -- mine, to be specific, since it's the only one I can really be certain exists -- and discover new ways of seeing and thinking that will keep me interested in my life and the world for however many years I might be allowed to wander this Earth.
I hope that somehow this will help illuminate my life, but more importantly, I hope it can somehow help to illuminate the lives of others as well.
Beyond that, a nice bottle of red every now and then, a good steak and potato, and maybe an occasional rousing set of doubles with a few precisely placed passing shots down the line would be nice. Ah, there it is: I'm a tennis-playing glutton.

I'm a Christian wife and mother of three children. I've lived in Clay County (Middleburg) most all of my life except for a few years in Georgia as a child and while in college at FSU (88-90). I graduated from Middleburg High School in 1988. Four years later, I graduated from UNF (BA, Communications/Journalism) and married Keith. After spending over 12 years working full-time in women's healthcare and medical research, I jumped the career track to homeschool our children. I'm still employed (very part-time) by the University of Florida Institutional Review Board (research ethics committee), and I also do freelance medical writing/editing. The things I most enjoy (in no particular order) are reading, working out at the YMCA, watching my backyard birds at the feeders, and spending time with my family and pets.

I have been the nosy sort who loves to watch what the world is up to since my eyes focused after birth.
I have been a working journalist since 1980, when my newly won liberal arts degree got me a job at a weekly newspaper in South Carolina. In those days, we actually still used typewriters and laid out the pages by hand. The pay was low and has not gotten all that much better since.
But at least now we have computer writing programs that tell us as soon as we make a spelling mistake, cameras that can erase bad shots as soon as we take them and a Web site where we can post news online as soon as it happens!
Still, the bottom line remains the same. I'm still the nosy sort who loves to watch what the world is up to. Join me.

I've been a Florida Times-Union reporter since 1994. I love meeting new people, telling their stories and being able to shed light on good things happening in the community. I also love quirky or unusual stories. I live in the traffic-burdened, growing metropolis near Argyle Elementary School. My husband, Gerry, is a Forrest High School teacher, and our two children are Nichole, 12, and Brady, 5. I joined the Clay County Line in 2002 to be closer to home. The First Coast is home for me. My parents, two sisters and brother all live here with their families.

I grew up a Navy Brat on the Westside, and graduated from Forrest in 1989. I have worked in the eye care field for 15 years, but decided it was time to devote myself to my family. Currently, I am a full time wife and mom and part time teacher at my daughter's school. I am a Christian by God's grace through His Son Jesus, so I am also active in my Church, and with Bible Study Fellowship.

I live in what seems to be smack in the middle of the county with my husband, three kids, and varying numbers of cats roaming the yard.
For fun, I read whenever my toddlers aren't pulling my pants leg; surf the web whenever they're not in my lap to push the buttons. And when they're all in bed, I pour a glass and watch Masterpiece. Your basic mother nerd.

I've always loved Jacksonville. I was stationed at NAS in the 1950s and liked it from the day I arrived. I spent 41 years in marketing and advertising, many of those years as a writer for TV, radio and print. I love to write and have been running a regular Community Column for Green Cove Springs in the old Clay County Line for about a year. I was born in Pittsburgh but lived in New York City, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, and Cleveand. I am married to Alice, a wonderful wife, who is very active in Magnolia and Green Cove.
