Meeting with State Attorney's Office on Taylor Case

Tuesday my husband and I met with Dan Skinner and Sam Garrison with the State Attorney's office.  Our purpose was to inquire why charges were not filed against Adam Taylor.  Basically we were told that by Taylor's own admission he did break the law and lewd charges could be filed, but it was the decision of Harry Shorstein not to file any charges.  They stated that they were not going for lewd charges, but instead sexual assault.  I felt these two individuals seemed honestly concerned for the situation, but their hands are tied on this as a decision was made by their superiors.  They stated they did believe my daughter and would meet with her to tell her this and discuss the ramifications of a trial so she is knowledgeable of what is involved.    Mr. Skinner stated that lewd charges are often used when there was consent, even though it is not required for the charge.  This is why they did not seek lewd charges.  He said sometimes sexual battery charges are reduced to lewd charges as negotiation. My husband and I expressed that we were wanting him charged with the lewd charges instead of no charges at all.  He suggested we meet with Julie Schlax with the Jacksonville State Attorney's Office, then after the election with Harry Shorstein.  They stressed that the SAO is not being politically motivated.  I have to say that these gentlemen seemed very concerned about the entire situation.  Mr. Skinner said he would be doing exactly what we are doing if it was his daughter.  I truly want to believe in the system and the people we have entrusted to make lawful decisions, so I will do as they stated and take it to the next level.  We were also told that the case could be reopened, no explanation will be given on that at the present time.  If that information is given to Taylor's attorney I will lose what trust I do have with the SAO.  Interestingly though prior to our preestablished meeting I got a call that Hank Coxe had a meeting with Dan Skinner.  Coincidence?  Let me know what you think.

Taylor Lies!!!

I am sure many of you watched the Channel 4 Sheriff Candidate debates where Taylor once again claimed his son was exonerated.  As I said before, and Angela stated it was the comment of the month, If the report stated sufficient evidence for an arrest, he is guilty!  Let me explain myself.  Florida Statute 800.04.  Need I say more?  Under Florida Statute 800.04 any person under 18 as Mr. Taylors son was, and any person under 16 (as the victim was) who engage in any sexual activity the offender can be charged with a Lewd and Lascivious Battery/Molestation charge which is a felony.  So since he admitted the act he is guilty.  No ifs, no buts.  Now I don't think anyone believes it was consentual but for this charge, it does not matter.  The statute is very clear and this young man should have been charged.  For the charge of Statutory Rape it describes sexual activity between two people when it would otherwise be illegal.  Sexual activity at 14 is illegal.  Unwanted sexual activity is not only illegal but immoral.  Taylor admitted he wanted it, and she did not.  Read Folio again for any clarity you need on that.

Mr. Taylor's HOA

I heard Mr. Taylor has a meeting with the Fleming Island Home Owner's Association because of his refusal to follow their policy regarding political signs (in his yard).

From what I heard - Mr. Taylor has been asked many times to take down the political signs in his yard but refuses to.  The HOA has asked him to come in for a meeting about the situation.  I am wondering if anyone knows if this is true.  I do not live in FIP and don't know the policies.

Can anyone confirm the accusations and/or policy?

IF this is true, I think it is yet another blemish on Mr. Taylor's record.  I know this is a very small complaint but it shows that he doesn't follow the rules.  It is like he is exempt from the rules that everyone else must live by.  I have already pointed out in earlier blogs that his union endorsement add-on signs (attached to his large signs) are in violation of election laws, and he has had ample time to remove them yet has only changed a very small percentage of them.  I don't fault Mr. Taylor as much for not knowing a rules (even though he should know both of these rules) but I can fault him for not correcting the problem after it has been pointed out to him.

TALK ABOUT A SMOKE SCREEN

Mr. Taylor, I did not intend to get involved in the issue with your son because I do not believe candidate’s children should be brought into a political race. Although I do have questions about your son’s innocence, I was going to stay out of it. Until that is, I read this preposterous and slanderous email.

It is easy to follow along; my statements are in bold and slightly larger print than your rant.

Hot Off the Presses/Folio

With so much discussion about the Sheriffs race I thought I would provide a link to a breaking story. Funny how I've seen people carrying stacks of Folio's off the racks to keep them out of the hands of readers, it's sometimes hard to find a copy.  Fortunately this time they've decided to run an online version in it's entirety.

I've not read it myself yet so I will not comment further.

Take a copy and pass it around.
