A cool hurricane tracking tool

Gang,

I have been interested in tracking hurricanes for over 30 years and yet I have never seen such a great tool as has just been passed along to me.

I don't know how accurate it actually is but is sure looks cool.

Take a look, let me know what you think.

Hanna now Hurricane

Hanna has been upgraded to Hurricane Status.  Still taking aim at the GA/SC border but we are inside the western edge of the cone of uncertainty

Watching the Tropics

While all eyes are watching New Orleans, Hanna has intensified as of the 11 AM report and at the moment has its sights set on the South Carolina/Georgia border.  meanwhile TD-9 has formed over the Atlantic and at 5PM might be called Ike.   The Hurricane Watch Net now has streaming audio of the ham radio network available on the net.  Go to www.hwn.org and you can listen to the hams.

Ut Oh! Here Comes Fay

I just took a look at Fay with data supplied by the National Hurricane Center.   The general concensus of the models has Fay at my house eventually as a Catagoty 1 Hurricane!   Yikes!

I am boarding up.  My place in Lake Asbury will be on the STRONG side of the storm.   I hope they're wrong!

Fay Forecast Improving

With every forecast update Fay's track appears to be taking it further to the east.

The latest track has the extreme western edge of Clay County just outside of the Tropical Storm wind zone. The eastern 3/4 of the county is still forecast for tropical storm force winds although the sustained windspeed is showing a number in the 40's now which is a big improvement over last night. STILL, be ever vigilent and prepared. These forecasts that are put out by the National Hurricane Center are sometimes missleading in that things get worse than expected or things completely fizzle. Let's pray for a fizzle.

Fay - Pay Attention To This Storm!

Dear Bloggers and Bolgettes:

Latest on Tropical Storm Fay shows that it may very well become a hurricane after it emerges in the Gulf of Mexico. Of concern to us in Clay County at this time is the potential for tropical storm force winds in our area. In 2004 we were plagued by Francis and Jean. At that time we had extended power outages in many places and a lot clean up after the storm. It was inconvenient but by no means devastating.

The winds in 2004 did not reach tropical storm force! An occasional gust but we did not have sustained winds of 39 MPH or higher.

Counting our blessings and weather

Bloggers, please watch the weather today, I just turned on the TV for the first time today.  There has been almost 50 deaths from the rash of tornados.  Once again, it looks like bad weather is not coming our way. But be prepared and I for one will be counting my blessings.

Getting In The Spirit

To My fellow bloggers,

Hope all is well with all of you & why shouldn't it be after the JAGS win.  We finally got some seasonal weather that is putting a spring in the step.  Just in case you might think that even too much of a good thing is OK, go to www.chicagotribune.com & on the right hand side, hit the weather photo section.  If some of you don't like the cool weather here, just remember.  things could be worse.  HO, HO, HO!  JATFUR.

FLOODING ON FLEMING ISLAND

October 3, 2007

During the rains and flooding on Tuesday evening, a live oak tree fell across Waterbury Lane in Habersham Harbor around 9:00pm. The tree appears to have been waterlogged from the top, and lost its grip in the water-soaked soil beneath. It came up by the roots, taking landscape shrubs with it, and leaving a hole about two feet deep in the yard. A second live oak in the same yard had also begun to uproot, and was leaning precariously at about a 10-degree angle. A portion of Swimming Pen Creek behind the house may have swelled to contribute to the saturation. Public Works personnel on the scene estimated the fallen tree to be at least one hundred years old.

The owners of the tree were out of town when it fell across the street and into the driveway of John and Carolyn Ward, missing their truck by several feet. Carolyn Ward heard the noise but didn’t realize what happened. “I heard a crackling boom,” she said. “I thought my husband fell down the stairs or something. Thirty minutes later a guy’s at my door asking if I knew a tree fell in my yard.”
