general contractors

There is another blog going about Grass Roots and Accountability that I didn't want to sidetrack with this.  But answer me if you will your opinion on whether or not the facts that I am about to pose resemble accountability at any level.

We did not have a builder for our home, we acted as the Builder and hired a GC.  To make a long and frustrating story short this General Contractor essentially embezzled not only from us but also two Detectives for JSO.  We alone lost nearly 100K before we had proof and fired him.  We had all the documents, proof that any layman could clearly see.  He had so many sets of records you would have thought his name was Sybill.  It took us a year to get him charged even though we laid the proof at their door, it took another two for the State Attorney to end up offering him a plea deal that no one consulted us about......... he would spare the county a trial and plead guilty and pay restitution for no jail time.  It gave him lots of time to move all of his own properties into trusts where they cannot be touched.  We thought we would get lucky on one that was overlooked but the State Attorney released it!
